Video of Mongolian Mike. There are some outstanding ballplayers on this video. Jeremy Fears is a real stud. Mike has a really nice pull-up jumper and sees the court extremely well.

Great news! But don't we already have 13 on scholarship. Maybe someone has had conversations about transferring.

Gotta admit, I'm pretty good with national flags. But when I saw the tweet saying it's a great day to be a Flyer, I had no idea what flag that was.

Thanks for the video. I know it was edited but, overall, that was some quality basketball being played. That wasn’t Springboro vs. Miamisburg level.
As for MM, he looks like a really good ball handler and passer for someone his size. That move at the 4:25 mark was really impressive. He looks like a player that makes his teammates better.

Kid looks really fluid with the ball in his hand.
With the semester ending this week (I'm assuming exams are this week with no games mid week), is it possible someone has already informed CAG they intend to transfer out when the semester is over?
I realize that no matter what, someone is likely to transfer out at some point before next season, but I don't love the look of having a kid verbally commit while no roster spots are open (that we publicly know about anyways).
Anyhoo, I really like what I've seen on film from Mongolian Mike. How is his outside shot?

Grant could have already had conversations before the season started. Someone like weaver who is academically already a senior could be looking to move on and start a professional career overseas.

Let's say that Chatman had returned this season, wouldn't we have been allowed to carry 14 scholarships? Could that same rule carry over to 2022-2023 if say a Junior(from 2020-2021) returns an extra season 2 years later like Weaver could?

Certainly a possibility, or one of the many foreign born players we have on the team could be looking at playing professionally close to home as well.

My understanding, was that rule applied only to this season, then the extra space would not be allowable in future seasons, even though everyone got a "free" year last season.
But its the NCAA, things could certainly change on a whim.

Understand your thought completely. I would be more likely to agree if the roster was better spread among classes. But with so many players classified as freshman, I think AG has to sign a player (or two) if they are good enough to play. Imagine if 3 players leave and nobody has been signed; the black cloud crowd on this board would have a field day and even the rose colored glasses side would have trouble excusing that lack of preparation when transfers seem inevitable.
I don't think recruits at the level we want are going to wait around and see if spot opens.

I think you're right but for the same reason they allowed it in 2021-2022 they probably should allow it for the following year also and here's my reason. If you already had your 2021-2022 recruits signed, you didn't have to worry about the seniors returning and having to screw over someone you recruited. But couldn't some have had 2022-2023 commitments early enough to cause the same headache(on a much smaller scale)?

I understand your point, but it seems like these are the options.
1. Know someone is going to transfer out because you've talked to him and recruit someone else. "It's a bad look."
2. Assume no one is going to transfer out, but of course someone does. "AG is unprepared."
3. Know someone is going to transfer out, but assume no one will. "AG is out of touch with his program and the state of modern basketball."
4. Assume no one is going to transfer out, and no one does transfer out. "AG is not cutting bait with recruits that didn't pan out, and is dragging the program down over an outdated sense of loyalty. He's clearly not a winner."
If you're AG, you have the advantage of choosing which insult you will receive.

The one we can just throw out for sure is the "it's a bad look" because it happens everywhere, even at the blue bloods, so no one should throw that insult out anymore.

As mentioned in a previous post in another thread, I was told that Mike was behind academically due to language issues and not attending school for a period of time. If he is not ready to go for next season, would that have any bearing on the 2022 scholarship limit?

Sid, Here are two. Don't have to be a subscriber to see them.
The Post "It's a great day to be a Flyer" means we have a verbal commitment. Can't name the player until he signs. Note the flag in the picture is Mongolian.

Wow, what's not to like about this kid. Smooth with a capital "S". Great vision, great handle, decent leaps and nice shooting form. Check out the two videos on this site.

Not to be the negative one but his body is one thing not to like. He is painfully thin. I think he could struggle with the physicality of the game at the college level

He looks good but does anyone at that level know how to play defense at all? There was not many that looked like they had a clue defensively in that video.

Saw down the youtube hole this video from about 1.5 years ago. Has good range. I like the way he drives to the basket and waits for the defender to fly past / over him, then he lays in the bunny.

Wow, a 6'8 16 or 17 year old kid is skinny. Thanks to everyone who pointed that out because we know basketball players at that age and that height usually are built like NFL tight ends.

Well, you want to compare him with a 16 year old kid instead of someone who spends 1-2 years at the college training table and weight room, sooooooo. . . . there's that.
How about we compare him with other kids his age? Oh look, YouTube videos.

Very smooth, seems to glide.
And for such a skinny kid he looked to be pretty good at using his body and off-arm to hand fight while controlling the ball.

The Vertical Hyphen
John F. Horan, also nicknamed "The Vertical Hyphen," was an American professional basketball player. Horan was selected in the 1955 NBA Draft by the Fort Wayne Pistons after a collegiate career at Dayton. Wikipedia
John Horan is a one-for-one comparison to Mongo Mike.
He played before most of you were born. He practiced with our Holy Angels team on occasion just for grins. He was built like a #2 pencil. 6th over all pick in NBA draft. 6'8" and all of 160 lbs.

I compare him to all of the recruits UD has at that age. Mali, Greer, Holmes. I love how everyone is offended by one negative comment. If he was so perfect he would be considering duke and Kansas not EWU

lol. Looking at a 6'8 high school kid (and probably still growing) and pointing out that he's too skinny and will get out-muscled in college is like looking at a new born baby and pointing out that he doesn't know math and can't read or write so he won't go far in life.
But you are correct in that everyone here who said he was "so perfect" are completely overboard. Here's the list of posters that did that:

Someone asked what’s not to like. I gave a reason. And last I checked he’s the 2022 recruiting class. Thats less than a year from now that he will be playing collegiate basketball. So you’re analogy is actually just dumb. He does not have a college body yet and will not have one in 9 months. Can his body catch up? Sure but not that fast. So yeah there is something not to like just yet. You guys are so sensitive to anyone disagreeing with you. Recruits have their weaknesses and I just pointed his out.

lol, keep doubling down. Whether he'll bring star power as freshman is not important. This year it was important, next season it shouldn't be. We're talking about a promising recruit. You want to debate his weaknesses, stick to his game, not his physique. What's his weaknesses in HS? Is it defense, is it rebounding, shooting, movement with and without the ball?
The only way his physique should be brought up is if you saw something in his HS play that shows that it hinders him. If so, enlighten us. If not, shut up about it because you don't know how his game will transfer to college anymore than I do but as a UD fan, we tend to look at a newly signed recruit and pick out his strengths. Only a Flyer hater would look for negatives in his physique before he ever steps foot on the college court.

I guess we should be recruiting offensive linemen according to some. There have been plenty of skinny players that were excellent. My guess is his 3 point shooting is likely to be discussed more than his weight.

Ok chump. This is a forum where people debate things. If it was all positives all the time this thing would not exist so get over yourself. I bet coach Grant also hates the Flyers because if you know anything about sports there is plenty of negatives to go with the positives. And everyone looks at the height of a player when he’s being recruited which is part of his overall physique. If he was 5 foot 5 would you comment on that? I think so. I hope to heck this kid succeeds and is the next obi. Hope he can take negative comments otherwise he never will be. Maybe that explains why you weren’t. But atleast you are an expert scout who knows thatbody type has nothing to do with athletic ability and prowess. Can’t believe you’re still a free agent at this point

Look moron, talk basketball not physique. Physique doesn't answer anything. Skinny players are stars sometimes, skinny teenagers fill out sometimes. Solidly built players crash and burn sometimes. Picking on a player's physique to show a negative, when there's no evidence that it has hindered him at the level he's currently at is just talking to be talking because it brings nothing to the table. But that's your MO, bringing nothing to the table so carry on fool.

Literally the NBA combine looks at physique, body fat, lean muscle mass. They all get physically picked apart. If that didn’t matter they wouldn’t assess it. You must have been the scrawny little man growing up telling everyone that size didn’t matter. You are insane if you don’t think that’s part of basketball. I have been trying to argue logic with someone who is completely illogical which I guess makes me insane. And no matter how sweet you ask I’m still going to talk about whatever the heck I want. If you don’t like it then dont engage.

He's skinny but given the roster I don't think the pressure is on him to come in and contribute 30 minutes. Power forwards that come in built like Charles Little usually end up in power conferences if they have any skill
As far as scholarship limits goes, I think people underrating going back to Europe for some of the internationals. Having a European passport makes those guys more valuable in Euro leagues since they have limits on non-EU citizens.
If you're likely going back to Europe anyways to play there's no time like the present if they get a good offer back home

Guess what. You're not an NBA scout and he's not entering his name into the NBA draft. He is a signed college player committed to the Dayton Flyers. So Anthony Grant did all the physical evaluation on this kid and signed him. It's now a moot point until he proves otherwise.
So, let me say again that you harping on his physique brings nothing to the table. But keep doing it. Your ignorance amuses me.

I'm disappointed that he hasn't passed the bar exam or the CPA exam yet. I expect post-grad capabilities in all aspects from our 17 year old recruits.

There is exactly 0 logic in your claim that his physique is a negative at least until you supply evidence that it's hindering him currently and then can translate that to limiting him next year.
Plenty of thin players have stayed thin throughout their college careers and have been great players. Not saying Mike will be too, just not saying he has to beef up to be either.
P.S. If you want to see smug, look in the mirror

This does not surprise me. When I looked at the videos I thought this kid plays like PG. His weight and physique means less at that position than at a forward. Some of those very quick no look passes are a special talent. At 6'8" and with his quickness and handle, he will be a matchup nightmare, as long as he can play defense on a smaller quicker guy.

....and neither are you. Apparently you have plenty of time to debate a simple observation. Do you really think everyone that commented on his thin frame felt he wouldn't get into the program and develop just as nearly all players have?
Come on, man!

Love the name calling! Apparently having a different opinion allow for personal insults. Well done men!
So as long as we’re being continuous let’s let the elephant into the room. Who’s leaving to make room for Mike?
Washington seems most likely to me. Not getting any playing time. The little we’ve seen shows a kid not yet ready for this level. Assuming the rest of the team returns next year he’d be unlikely to get much more PT. And those in front of him, Amzil, Zimi ( assuming he returns to form) and Blakeny are all also freshmen. Why would he stay?

"What's not to like?". Maybe you and your buddy should learn what a rhetorical question is. And please explain what I said that would insinuate that I was an NBA scout. Your twin twit mentioned that the NBA evaluates size and I tried to explain that's no reason for him to do so since he's first not qualified and 2nd that the player in question isn't going to the NBA as of yet. And his size was deemed not an issue by CAG or he wouldn't have signed him.
Now, join your ignorant buddy in being done with this because everything I said to him applies to you. No more needs to be said.

Who cares at this point. We have 20 some games left this year. Sit back, enjoy, and let the cards fall where they fall. A lot can change between now and the offseason in April.

Welcome to The Family
Mike, glad to have you aboard! As you can see, some of 'The Family' are prone to bickering - pay them no mind.

Plenty of thin players have stayed thin throughout their college careers and have been great players. Not saying Mike will be too, just not saying he has to beef up to be either.

Look, there are plenty of 17-18 year old, 6'7/6'8 kids that are weak and need muscle just like there are more than a few that come in built and 220 lbs. but that type of kid ain't coming to UD most likely. This kid has tremendous athletic ability.
He probably will struggle his" first year" at the college level just like hundreds of kids do.But, on the flip, there are plenty of kids 6'8" that are pretty strong and aren't thin that are also considered finesse players and shy away from contact.Amzil on UD is listed at 220 lbs. and was close to that last year and he's about as finesse a player as there is or at least he was a year ago and earlier this year. He seems to mixing it up better now.
Some players are athletic enough AND know how to use their bodies being thin to get the most out of them and they can be considered physical.Remember a kid named Adam Morrison from Gonzaga? He was 6'8", came into college at no more than 175 and left 3 years later at not even 200 lbs. He was plenty tough enough and nasty enough to mix it up to the tune of being named POTY.

Again I’m not saying this kid won’t be a stud. Just pointed out a possible area of weakness. All the recruits have a weakness in their game and ability. His just so happens to be size and strength. Kid could end up starting day one and averaging 20 a game for all I know. But he might have trouble boxing out Sissoko looking opponents. I’d be more than willing to make that trade off.

It's easier to make a tall person stronger than it is to make a strong person taller. So I'll take what the mongolian has and let Grant work with it.

Sorry, not my buddy. A few people make an observation that the young man is thin and you blow a gasket. I found that amusing and also a trait you have demonstrated repeatedly over the years. Nothing more.
As far as being a "twit", I'de like to think not, but I do have a "twitter" account.

Just curious, is Beth Flach fluent in Mongolian in addition to Dutch, French, Bambara, and Finnish?? If she's not the highest paid person on staff, she should be.

From an article on the five biggest stock risers at Flyin' to the Hoop:
When Sharavjamts committed to Dayton in December, many were unaware of who he was. This summer, the 6-foot-7 wing at Willoughby (Ohio) ISA Academy played with the Midwest Basketball Club on Adidas’ 3SSB circuit.
Playing here, in the city where he will play his college ball, there was a buzz surrounding the Mongolian native. Sharavjamts did not disappoint onlookers as he averaged 17.5 points, shooting 57-percent from the field in his two games at Flyin’ to the Hoop.
In a 74-71 win over Shaker Heights (Ohio) High, Sharajamts displayed many of the skills that piqued Anthony Grant’s interest. He was great in the pick and roll, making correct reads with what the defense gave him. Sharavjamts was comfortable with the pull-up jumper and was precise with his passing. He is a high-level athlete, a competitive defender, and a high-IQ playmaker. As he continues to add weight at Dayton, things could take off for him. Sharavjamts will be in the conversation to enter the rankings during the next update.

He is now #100 in ESPN’s top 150. They mention him among a handful of players who raised their stock (this looked like the same info as was in the article posted yesterday). I’m really curious to see where he fits in next year. Will he be a 3/2?

SF Mike Sharavjamts
International Sports Academy (OH)
New 2022 ESPN 100 ranking: 100
Previous 2022 ESPN 100 ranking: unranked
Committed to: Dayton
Sharavjamts first appeared on our radar this summer when playing alongside more high-profile prospects like Reed Sheppard and Gabe Cupps on a Midwest Basketball Club that was one of the most collectively skilled and unselfish teams of the summer. This winter though, he has been more of a focal point for ISA and demonstrated a very rare combination of size and passing ability. Simply put, his feel for the game is absolutely off the charts.
Whether he's operating as a big point guard of sorts or playing off the ball, his floor vision and basketball instincts are obvious. As he continues to build up his body, his game is only going to continue to emerge. Projecting out a couple of years, as part of a young and talented Dayton core, he could become a star in the Atlantic 10.

I think he’ll be a 1/2. He’s got a great handle and PG skills.

I have a hard time with the 1/2 rotation with Mongo Mike, which is what made me think they could go with him at the 3. With his size and skills at the 3, it would create match up problems for the opponent. It will be a nice problem to have.

Don’t be surprised if we lose 1 or 2 players this next offseason which will open up play for him at the 1/2.

ESPN site lists him as a SF. What position and how much he plays as a freshman will
depend on his defense.

I can think of 3-4 that wouldn't surprise me in the least! The guys on the roster averaging less than 5 minutes per game, and one that's pretty recently been demoted. All could peace out.
