Is "Over-scheduling" the Problem?

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- The Flyers are now entering the interesting part of the OOC schedule, starting with today’s contest at ODU. In addition to the Monarchs, games at Seton Hall and at home vs. George Mason and New Mexico will tell us all we need to know about this year’s squad.

Unfortunately, it looks like this is one of those years where you can’t even overlook Western Carolina or Winthrop who are sandwiched in the middle of that lineup.

Maybe the problem thus far is something that UD Pride MB poster THirt pointed out:

The Flyers have “over-scheduled” early in the season.

Too many games, too close together (thanks in large part to the Global Sports Main Event) meant that BG has had a grand total of 9 days of practice to incorporate four freshmen and one transfer into the Flyer system, when you take into account travel days and NCAA-mandated days off. UD has a week off after the ODU game, albeit so the guys can take their finals. Will it make a difference? We shall see.

-- Rob Dauster of Beyond the Arc has this to say about the ODU/UD tussle:

Dayton @ Old Dominion: Dayton’s been downright bad this season, while ODU has taken a bit of a step back in the last week. Both of these teams are big and athletic.

Linky goodness to the whole shmear:

-- Hey, what do you know? UD is in the top 20…of RushtheCourt.com’s weekly “Other 26.” Linkitacity:

-- UD recruit LaDontae “Buckets” Henton is cited as the #1 player in the state of Michigan (and future UD teammate Percy Gibson is #9) by longtime prep write Mick McCabe of the Detroit Freep:

-- However, Tom Markowski of the Detroit News only has “Buckets” as #5 (and also has PG at #9):

-- Team-wise, Markowski has Percy’s Detroit Southeastern as the top squad in the state, while LaDontae’s Lansing Eastern squad is picked 4th:

-- Meanwhile, McCabe sees Eastern as #2 and Southeastern as #4:

-- UD Assistant Coach Jon Borovich talks about Devin Searcy’s season thus far in his semi-regular blog on College Chalk Talk:

-- Interesting interview with Andy Mac, the longtime X announcer found on the Dana & Victory blog:

My favorite part -- Andy’s totally accurate assessment of the JOB years at UD:

“O’Brien ruined the UD program in the early 1990’s. O’B almost took the Flyers to a Final 4 in 1990 using Don Donoher’s players.”

“O’Brien I guess can coach at the NBA level but he forgot to recruit at Dayton.”

-- The Hoops Report dares to ask the question “Why Won't Powerhouses Play On-Campus Road Games?”

Kudos to SJU’s Phil Martelli for pulling off that Gopher game as well as to Tubby Smith for playing it.

-- How the heck did this happen? The Illini and BG’s alma mater Oakland played 7 minutes of a game with a women’s ball!

My first clue that we were playing the game with a women’s ball would be when I palmed the ball, Doctor J style. How could those guys not tell the difference?

That’s it “From the Swamp.”

I would say this team has, and usually does overschedule.

Overscheduling, lol. Yeah, thats probably it, especially when it's ETSU, Savannah State, and FAMU you're playing. Brutal, that combined with a bad Miami team. I don't see how those guys have the strength to get out of bed.
