I don't know my history, did not know that part of the original cross that Jesus was crucified on was in the Sacristie of Notre Dame. Shocked.

Billionaires promise $300M to rebuild Notre Dame Cathedral after brutal fire

Billionaires promise $300M to rebuild Notre Dame Cathedral after brutal fire.

Salma Hayek’s husband, the French billionaire François-Henri Pinault, pledged almost $113 million to rebuild Paris’ historic Notre Dame Cathedral after Monday’s devastating fire.

Bernard Arnault, owner of the luxury goods group LVMH, which is responsible for Moët Hennessy and Louis Vuitton SE among other brands, pledged $226 million toward reconstruction efforts. The Arnault family and LVMH will make the donation to save such an important “symbol of France, its heritage and its unity,” LVMH said in a statement.
French oil and gas company Total, which is headquartered in Paris, also pledged another $113 million.

Jesus' original crown of thorns and one of the original nails that was used to nail him to the cross were also in the sacristy.

I hope that I am not offending anyone's beliefs, but it is hard to believe that the Catholic Church has been able to keep track of the original cross, crown, and one of the nails for the past roughly 2,000 years, nevertheless, that is the church's official position. That is a test of faith I suppose.

ud2 - there are relics that are fake and there are relics that are real. The Shroud of Turin is a relic with the impression of the risen Christ. It has been scientifically examined. Many believe it to be real including scientists who examined it. Some do not believe it to be real. So you may never know, but the idea it represents is what people venerate.

History of the crown of thorns: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_of_thorns
The earliest mention seems to have been by St. Paulinus of Nola (d. 431) who mentioned veneration of the crown of thorns in Jerusalem in 409 A.D.
