Hated the announcers
Had a Dayton University. Had the wrong number of guys on scholarship. Talked and showed a graphic of DS's performance in our " 9" losses. Called the wrong guy several times. Hardly seemed knowledgeable about us or professional to me.

Mark Adams is a feature college basketball analyst for the "American Sports Network", a new subchannel being run by Sinclair Broadcasting. They've been broadcasting some mid-major conference games on 45.2 and 22.2 in the Dayton area. It's been pretty nice to watch some college basketball on local TV during the weeknights.

Yep, but still doing games on ESPN family too, which surprises me they let him work for ASN as well. Just saw him a few nights ago.

2nd thread with you referring to DS. WHO THE HELL IS DS? If it's Scoochie you're referring to, okay, I'll accept that, but I know in your last thread by the context, it wasn't him you're talking about and the only other DS got kicked off the team.

Yes. I forgot I could turn off sound. They were actually a distraction.
For having no connection to what doing their job was I would have no problem calling them nasty names.
I looked for help who was making plays when I needed it, and not once were these two any help.
Passed up the 'A' word 'F' ing BAD

To be more constructive: They needed to do some homework and learn who the players were, and identify more 'specifically' who was doing what on the basketball floor.

Not that it matters that much, but for those of us who couldn't see the game, what were these announcers' names?

Which is specifically what Mark Adams excels at--preparation. Mark does MVC games for ESPN for the most part.

I thought that I heard "somewhere" that ESPN was experimenting with having the announcer and color guy not actually at the site.... ie working remote. I guess they "announce" via looking at the feed in an office "somewhere". Those guys were real BAD last night... could this have been one of these experiments? They were pretty clueless as to what was going on.

Nothing infuriates me more than hearing "Dayton University". Do they say University of West Virginia or North Carolina University? Know the school names!!

Think he means Pierre, because Dyshawn was the subject of the graphic at the beginning that listed his point production in our 9 non-existent losses.

Color guys are supposed to give us stuff that we can't see, game trends, strategies, et. al., I guess some of that they could do in a studio, but not with the camera work we are getting. Sounds like an overzealous CFO on the loose driving "cost reduction".
As an aside, many of the game summary narratives are written using only the box score and play-by-play thread. Anyone who knows the game can do it. Don't have to be at the game or even watch it on some media.

Branch was a train wreck as the color guy, but my biggest problem was the play by play. That guy rarely gave the play by play. Never mentioned guy's names passing the ball. How many times did he not say what the ref called. Usually I saw the call, but about three times I had no idea. I just knew possession had changed.

Branch reminds of Bill Walton, talks too much and gives too little information amidst all that gum flapping.

I continue to be disappointed by the lack of graphics. I watched from a bar with no audio. Games on ESPN or ESPN2 seem to get much better production in terms of showing stat graphics. If a player is shooting a FT, something showing points, percentages, etc. Not having them on CBSSN or NBCSN doesn't surprise me since they are 2nd class operations, but not getting them on ESPNU is pathetic. If I remember correctly, not even a halftime chart showing individual points and fouls. I had to use gametracker on my phone to keep up.

Last night, MrsFF made me either MUTE or change channels to the Murray State vs Western Kentucky game rather than watch the UCLA vs Utah game with Bill Walton. She despises him.

This was not the case as they were shown on camera several times at the arena (and not a case of a green screen) and the official UD basketball twitter account posted a picture of Adrian Branch talking with Archie either Wednesday or Thursday so it would seem that they were not in a studio. Normally I listen to Larry and Bucky, either on the internet or on the TuneIn radio app on my phone. With my DVR I can pause the game and let the TV feed sync up with the audio. Without Larry last night I chose not to do it and I really missed him.

I didn't have a chance to hear them, but my first thought was of Waite Hoyt broadcasting the Reds games "from" Los Angeles back in 1958 or so, reading from the ticker tape in the Cincinnati studio, using a stick whapping on a piece of bamboo to imitate the sound of the bat. Only difference was that Waite was great at it, while these guys sound like they were clueless.

I think it was pretty well established earlier in this thread that these announcers were doing this game live from the Mullins Center in Amherst.
I remember Waite Hoyt doing the away games off the ticker tape but don't remember ever hearing the sound of a ball hitting the bat. He simply made everything up. When he said a batter hit a line drive single to left field, it may have been a pop fly that the left fielder lost in the sun and the batter was credited with a single.
