Every year, I decide on January 1 that I am going to improve my life by making some changes. Those changes have been everything from losing weight, to exercising more, to being more considerate in my wife. Most of these come and go, but a few of them actually stick around and make me a better person. I’m not going to bore you with this year’s group of improvements but what I thought I’d do is to come up with some for our beloved Flyers.

.) It’s time to move Yuanta Holland into the starting lineup and leave him there. Where are all of you that were comparing Nate Green to Ryan Perryman and saying that he was better. Yes, I know that until the Miami game Holland was pretty much a no-show. He is the type of player that excels when you just put him in and let him play. Give him 30 minutes and we will have a fourth scoring option if we play our cards right.

.) Quit messing around with the Edwin Young experiment at shooting guard. Two years ago he was given a test run there and showed little, despite what some have said. He is not a scorer and never will be. I would rather have a shooting guard miss a shot than be afraid to take one. I realize that there are not many alternatives. One might be use Holland at wing forward with Green in the game at PF.

.) Somebody — anybody that has OP’s ear — must convince the man that you have to score to win. When I see a lineup that features Morris, Young, Fitz, Cooper, and Green/Holland, I get the shakes. I really don’t care what this group gives us on the defensive end, there is not one real scoring threat on the floor.

.) Make Brooks Hall take 5 laps around the outside of the Arena for every shot that he does not take. I quit counting the number of open shots he passed up against MU. He needs to get 10-12 shots each game. He needs to get to the line and open up the defense with a drive or two. He is going to be a great one, but we need that greatness now.

.) We have 3 guys that need to play 32-35 minutes each game, Ashman, Hall and Stanley. They are 20 years old. They should never get tired. Let them play.

.) Make our guys stop dribbling so much on offense. If you are not moving to the basket, just pass it to someone who is willing to do so.

.) Stop missing all of those free throws. It will cost us a game soon. We have been lucky so far.

.) Make Doliboa’s back stop hurting. The next 16 games may have the look of .500 or worse if he is not out there.

.) Let’s stop the charade. Morris is the better of the two point guards. Let him start and lets be done with it. He came into the Miami game less than three minutes in.

.) Let’s keep everybody healthy and happy for the rest of the season. We can’t afford to lose many more players. The waiver wires just aren’t very helpful.

.) Stop throwing crap into the stands, especially during play. I saw two people fall into the row in front of them going for stupid t-shirts. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. You can advertise all you want. Just find a better way to pump up the crowd.

.) Come up with a better way to get people in and out of the Arena. I made the mistake of thinking that I could actually get from Flanagans to the Arena in under 40 minutes just before the Miami game. As most of you know, the distance between these two revered spots isn’t much greater than a mile. Guess who ended up running from his car to the entrance? Don’t even talk to me about getting out of that place. It’s no wonder people leave before the final horn.

.) Please, please, please sign a big man or two and a point guard in the spring. And please make them be good.

.) Every once in a while, the fact that I am a man rears its ugly head. We spend a great deal of time recruiting our basketball players. How about spending a little time recruiting our cheerleaders. Does anyone ever think to go to Hooters? I know some of those girls go to college. I really don’t care if they can do gymnastics.

.) Do one through ten above and you will get us the most important resolution, the NCAA tournament.
