#3 RAMOD MARSHALL, 6-2 180LB, FR, CHARLOTTE, NC

Ramod Marshall was originally slated to be a Georgia Bulldog last season before the NCAA’s eligibility police ruled he didn’t meet freshman eligibility requirements. Signed at UGA by current Flyer assistant Ron Jirsa while he was the Bulldog head coach, Marshall spent last season in prep school (Bridgton Academy, Maine) to gain his eligibility. Marshall was part of a UGA recruiting class brought in by Jirsa that was ranked among the Top-10 in the nation. As a senior in high school, Marshall was viewed as a combo guard in the SEC, lacking in the playmaking skills to succeed at the point. But while he was in prep school, Marshall worked on more than just the books, striving to improve his playmaking ability and improve his value as a point guard. Marshall averaged 17ppg, 5apg, and 3rpg a game for Bridgton Academy last year while shooting a sizzling 45% from behind the arc. As a junior at Garinger HS in Charlotte, NC, Marshall put up 14.2ppg, 4.3apg, and 4rpg. Marshall is obviously the type of player who can do a little of everything and that’s what attracted the attention of Jirsa and eventually Head Coach Oliver Purnell.

Said Purnell after Marshall signed with the Flyers, “We’re pleased to add Ramod to our backcourt. His ability to play either guard spot attracted us to him. His high school and prep school experience will aid in his transition to the college game.”

In early practices and the open scrimmage, Marshall has shown solid skills at the point and has demonstrated an ability to score from that position. Most impressively, he has been quicker than most fans anticipated as David Morris has had difficulty getting past Marshall off the dribble.

Marshall will see most of his playing time backing up David Morris at the point, but his scoring ability should also help him back up shooting guard Tony Stanley on occasion. He will face competition from Stan King and Sam Smith at the 2 position, but King might get a few looks at the point if the rumors are true about his handle.
