The Dayton Flyers wrapped up the non-con portion of the 2024-25 schedule on Friday with a 66-59 loss to nationally-ranked Cincinnati, finishing 10-3 overall with a handful of high-quality wins that fattened the resume' and a trio of losses that shouldn't smell in March.  All things considered, it was a successful outcome against an ambitious schedule that dwarfed opposition other A10 members competed against.
Dayton took its first positive step with tight home wins over St. Francis (PA) and Northwestern, the latter victory avenging a loss to the Wildcats one year ago in Evanston.  NW has done well (9-3) and should battle for an at-large invitation if they can maintain traction in the Big-10 portion of their schedule.  The Flyers also chalked up buy-game wins against Ball State, Capital, and New Mexico State. While UD lost its first two games in the Maui Invitational to then-ranked North Carolina and current Top-5 Iowa State, the Flyers tackled two-time defending national champion UConn -- then ranked #2 -- in the 7th place game to avoid a clean sweep.  Dayton throttled the Huskies 85-67 and at the time Dan Hurley's squad looked like they were in free-fall after three consecutive Maui defeats as the tourney favorite. The Dayton victory has aged well as UConn bounced back to defeat Baylor, Texas, Gonzaga, and Xavier to find itself back in the Top-15 of the national rankings. In fact, they haven't lost since dropping the game to Dayton.
