BEVERLY HILLS (MI) — The 1-0 Dayton Flyers are ready to board The Charleston Express for three games in four days starting Thursday afternoon in The Charleston Classic. Archie and the Boys will open vs. Colorado of the Pac-12. The Buffaloes walloped Wofford 74-59 in their opener on Friday night.

Before that, let’s take a look back at the home opener vs. the ASU Red Wolves:

— Whether by design or not, I think Matt Derenbeckers’s decision not to shoot right away vs. Arkansas State was a wise one, as it allowed him to get in the flow and work out the nerves. Then, when he was presented with a fairly open three-point opportunity, he splashed it.

— Conversely, D-MO taking and making a trey for the Flyers’ first points of the game was just the confidence booster that Devin needed.

— I’m gonna reserve judgment on the new player intros at UD Arena until I actually see them in person. They kinda lost something in translation on the student-run UD TV feed…which BTW, was much improved over past years. Love the replays!

— Tom Archdeacon in The DDN with a great piece on how Vee Sanford is motivated by former players like Daytonian Dwight “The Blur” Anderson and Flyer great Roosevelt Chapman:

— I like what I see so far from Canadian Dyshawn Pierre and I am really impressed with Columbus Northland duo of Jalen Robinson and Devon Scott.

— If you want the latest Twitter updates on the Flyers and their exploits in The Charleston Classic this week, then UD Pride Commander-In-Chief Chris Rieman is the guy to follow:

Me, I’ll be Game-Tracking the opener at 12:30PM on Thursday while I’m at work.

Given the Flyers’ recent success with in-season tournaments like this, I am cautiously optimistic about the performance of the Red and Blue in SC.

— Not to be outdone on Saturday, Jim Jabir’s young Flyers knocked off #24 DePaul, 92-80 in Chi-town. Way to go ladies!

— You just knew that “The Hometown Coach” Mark Adams would find a way to work a Dayton Flyer reference into his “Early Season Graphics for 2012-13”:

Kinda reminds ya of Vee Sanford’s coast-to-coast jam vs. Ark State, doesn’t it?

The Flyers are tabbed to finish 11th? I don’t think so.

“The Sweet Tweet of the Week” comes from Michael Rosenberg of Sports Illustrated talking about the possibility of Phil Jackson replacing Mike Brown as Head Coach of the Lakers:

“There is certainly no chance of Phil Jackson dragging this out to bring attention to himself, so don’t you worry about that.”

That’s it “From the Swamp.”
