BEVERLY HILLS (MI) –- It’s nice to have Doug Harris at the DDN back blogging about BG’s Boys, after a one month absence. His latest entry deals with unofficial visits from Brandon Spearman and Cameron Wright:

— ESPN.com released their list of the Super 60 HS players from the Class of 2011 and unlike the 2010 edition, there isn’t a single kid from the state of Ohio on it:

— When it comes to 2010 prospects, the We Fly High Ballers blog has an update on some Michigan kids that UD is tracking, including Corey Petros, Kyle Vinales, Roy Marble, Jr. and Trey Ziegler:

— Speaking of Ziegler, I recently ran some one-on-one with his cousin, Tasaun Ziegler who is an Assistant Coach at Marygrove College here in Detroit. I also played against 6’7” Eric Johnson, who hoops for Coach Z at Marygrove. EJ was unbelievably deadly from beyond the arc. Here’s a link to the Marygrove roster:

That’s Coach Z in the blue shirt and EJ is #32.

— CBS Sportsline’s Gary Parrish on “The Bruiser Flint Syndrome” and the difficulty of taking over a college hoops program from a great coach:

Former UD Assistant Coach Shaka Smart who replaced Flyer great Anthony Grant at VCU and Eggs Over Easy head man Chris Mack are two of the guys facing that very situation in the upcoming season.

— Shoe companies are the epitome of all that is wrong with HS and AAU hoops and college basketball recruiting:

— And then there is Coach Cal:

— They say a picture is worth one thousand words. If so, there must be quite a lengthy story behind this shot:

http://deadspin.com/5285902/bob-huggins-now-sporting-non+metaphorical-black-eyes

Huggy Bear explains away the pair of darkened orbs by saying that he “walked into a bathroom door.”

Sure you did, Bob.

— Here in Hockeytown we are still bumming over the Red Wings’ game 7 loss in the Finals to the Pens. In a move of epic stupidity, NBC banned Stanley Cup viewing parties at the Joe when the Wings were on the road as well as in the ‘Burgh at Mellon Arena when the Pens were playing up here because they “were costing the network a full rating point” in the Nielsens:

http://www.detnews.com/article/20090613/OPINION03/906130366/1128/SPORTS0103/NBC-has-its-signals-crossed-on-Cup-viewing-parties

Way to tick off what few hockey fans actually cared about the Cup, boys! What makes this move totally nonsensical is that the folks who attended these viewing parties obviously do so because they want to watch the game in a social setting. So, they probably went to a bar instead to view the games and guess what? NBC doesn’t get credit from Nielsen for viewership in bars either!

Fail!

— The mere mention of ‘fail’ can only bring to mind one name to this Red Sox fan after Friday night’s Spankees/Mets game — Luis Castillo:

That’s it “From the Swamp.”
