BEVERLY HILLS (MI) — Four weeks ago, I wrote a column entitled “What a Bunch of Tweets” on the subject of Twitter, in which I provided links to a number of basketball-related accounts. For those of you who are too lazy to hit the back button and go look for it, here it is:

https://www.udpride.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14783

Included in those Twitter links were the accounts of every member of the 2010-2011 Flyer squad (save Luke and Kavs, who either don’t tweet or are very secretive about it) and some past players.

Since that date (July 18th), it has like been Pompeii after Mt. Vesuvius erupted and buried the city — time has stood still in the Twitter world for these 12 Flyer players.

Take a look for yourself:

Players who have protected their tweets:

Chris Johnson: http://twitter.com/johnsonflyer4

Paul Williams: http://twitter.com/pmacflyer22

Juwan moved himself from the list of active tweeters to the “players who have protected their tweets” column. The rest? Well according to Twitter, they haven’t done a ****ed thing worth tweeting about in 4 weeks. Sure seems strange to me.

Most telling of all is the post by Devin Searcy, a one word cryptic message:

“Gone…”

Conspiracy theory?

Commie plot?

Hell, I don’t know and neither does Doug Hauschild. I emailed UD’s amiable SID and asked him about all of this and Doug doesn’t have a clue either.

Did BG put his foot down (as he has every right to do) and order everybody on the Flyer team out of the Twitter pool? It sure looks like it.

Let me be clear here, my intent in printing the original article was for entertainment purposes only and not to get any of the guys in trouble or create a massive fanboy following for their tweets. Their Twitter accounts were a matter of public record. All you have to do is search; find one account and then by checking out who they are following, you can fill in the blanks for the other players. What I did was tantamount to publishing their home phone numbers, which again, are a matter of public record. If they didn’t want to share their tweets, they had the option (as DMO, CJ, Paul and later Juwan did) to shelter their tweets from the public eye by keeping them private.

What would I do if I were BG?

a) Tell the UD players all to make their Twitter accounts private or
b) Do what BG did and tell them all to stop tweeting or
c) When in doubt, I’d blame Xavier

I’m not looking to create a controversy where there is none — just pointing out a situation and wondering what’s happened.

What do you think?

That’s it “From the Swamp.”
