I don’t care if it’s the middle of July…I don’t care if the Deveroes League is only for middle school kids…I don’t care if “Flyer Madness” is light years away and if the early signing period is even further off in the ether…I don’t care if there is nothing — and I mean zip, zap, zero, nada, bupkus — happening in the land of the Red and Blue….I don’t care — we are goin’ NBF, boys and girls, as in “Nuthin’ but Flyers” here at FTS today, even if I have to make stuff up! Buckle up and let’s ride!

— According to Pride Plus, some how, some way, BG has gotten a 6′ 6″ kid named Diamon Simpson from Hayward, CA interested in UD. Okay, the chances of him matriculating are minimal at best but still, when is the last time — if ever — that Dayton had a kid from the Left Coast even list the Flyers as one of his schools?

— Of all the current prospects in the “Brian Gregory Sales Funnel” I would most like to see him close the deal with big Anthony Sparks from up here in Detroit and Jamelle Cornley from Brookhaven HS in Columbus. Why those two? For the simple fact that both of them are kids that create match-up problems — BIG match-up problems.

— Time to clean out the AOL inbox of a couple of overdue emails. Miamisburg Tom wrote during the NBA Finals about my reference to Tayshaun Prince of the Pistons and a reminder of his place in Flyer history:

“I’ll give you another reason to like Tayshaun Prince. As incredible as that block was against the Pacers, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the guy for a play he didn’t make. I’m sure you remember UD’s victory over Kentucky in Cincinnati during the 1999-2000 season (Stanley and Ashman were seniors). Yes, I was there that night when UD pulled off the upset. We were up about 7 with under a minute to go when we started to tank some free throws. Kentucky had one last possession to tie or win it with a 3. The point guard drives down the lane and the defense collapses. He kicks the ball out to a wide open freshman named Tayshaun Prince. Thankfully, he missed the shot and UD got the win.”

I wasn’t there, Tom, but the game was on TV as I recall and it was a big win for the Flyers. Reminding UK fans that UD beat their butts never gets old either, does it?

— Mark Ryan wrote all the way from Ireland to let me know that CBS Sportsline had written some fresh words on our boys in Red and Blue:

“CBS Sportsline.com posted three new articles about each of the twelve A-10 Basketball teams. They have the Flyers finishing third in the A-10 West in 2004-2005, behind GW (first) and X (second). The first article on UD also implies that Chris Spears will be on the team this fall. Also, after Jimmy Binnie’s MVP performance at the AAU Senior Boys National Basketball Tournament, I don’t think he will be a back-up for Chris Alvarez.”

Thanks for the heads-up, Mark. If you want to read the whole thing, here’s the link:

— There is a rousing debate currently going on over at the A-10 MB about the X vs. UD Recruiting Classes of 2008:

http://www.basketballboards.net/forum/showthread.php?s=4a3df55591e2d337745d761f80c6d3ee&threadid=106717&forumid=79

I normally share wavelengths with frequent A-10 MB poster and fellow Flyer fan Chetburger, but I must disagree on Churchill Odia — NFW he ever plays for the Mouskies. You just don’t magically fix a problem with a visa. Unfortunately for X, Mr. Odia “can’t leave home without it.”

As to the debate over whose recruiting class is better, that’s why they play the games, guys.
