BEVERLY HILLS (MI) — With apologies to early ‘80s rock band Loverboy:
Everybody’s workin’ for the weekend
Everybody wants to make the dance
Everybody’s goin’ off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, Oh
You wanna be on the chart
you better start from the start
you wanna be in the show
c’mon baby let’s go
For the Flyers it all starts at 2:30 PM Thursday vs. the Butler Bulldogs on the NBC Sports Network…let’s hope that it does not end there as well.
Butler represents perhaps the worst of all possible 1st round matchups for UD and yet, at the same time, it is probably the best opportunity for Archie’s guys to show that they have learned from their mistakes.
If they can play 40 minutes of defense, avoid senseless turnovers and rebound on both ends of the floor, the Flyers have a chance to live another day and face LaSalleLASALLE UNIVERSITY
Established: 1863
Location: Washington, DC
Enrollment: 5,191
Type: Private
Affiliation: Roman Catholic
Nickname: Explorers
Colors: Blue and Gold on Thursday. (and remember, Butler recently lost at home to Charlotte, a team that UD handled on the road)
Should they not, it will merely be the latest sorry chapter for this “Woulda, coulda, shoulda” squad of hoopsters that is currently ranked #331 (of 339 teams) in the country in “Luck Factor” by Ken Pomeroy.
Which Flyer team is gonna show up?
****ed if I know.
— The final “Big East-as-we-know-it” Tournament is ready to fire up as well. The New York Times recalls the BE Final from 27 years ago that people in BE circles still talk about:
— Speaking of the BE, former member the WVU Hilljacks now have the audacity to complain about all of the travel required in their new league, the Big 12:
It’s like nobody in Morgantown even bothered to think about this before they bailed on the BE? Serves ‘em right!
— Here is a little taste of “Toughness” the new book by ESPN’s Jay Bilas:
— In case you missed it, fast forward to the last minute of action in the recent Maine Red Claws/Erie Bayhawks tilt and watch #33 in white fly:

— It would be kinda awkward for Doug Harris to write this piece, so Tom Archdeacon did the honors profiling UD Hall of Famer Chris Harris, Doug’s dad:
— On the recruiting front, here is some video of 2014 Chicago big man Sean O’Mara from Benet Academy, the same school that produced current UD walk-on Bobby Wherli:

— And in the “names to remember” department, here is some video of a 4’5” 11 year old PG named Julian Newman who is already playing HS ball, even tho he is only in the 5th grade!

— I think we all remember hearing that native Daytonian Adreian Payne had some serious grade issues when BG was recruiting AP at Jefferson HS. Turns out he had a learning disability and is now consistently making the Dean’s List at MSU. Good for him!
— Just in time for March Madness, Sports Illustrated has unleashed the “One and One” blog. Check it out:

— “The Sweet Retweet of the Week” comes to us from UD great Marcus Johnson:
Whenever I get mad, I just imagine a T-rex trying to pick up a basketball.
That’s it “From the Swamp.”
