The University of Dayton Flyers introduced themselves to the Flyer Faithful tonight at the UD Arena as “Flyer Madness” showcased the 99-00 team and coaching staff with various festivities and a short intrasquad scrimmage.

Among the new faces were highly touted recruit Brooks Hall, and Alter product Keith Waleskowski. Hall, perhaps biggest recruiting victory since taking over the program at Dayton, looked eager and excited to finally be wearing the UD colors after several months of off-court distractions related to an improper loan from a UD booster to Hall’s father. Likewise, Waleskowski received a warm welcome despite speculation that he may redshirt this season to add upper body strength and learn the Flyer system.

All of the familiar faces were there including Tony Stanley, Edwin Young, Cain Doliboa, and Mark Ashman. Ashman hit the weights very hard in the offseason according to many Flyer insiders. Though never to be confused with Kenyon Martin, the senior from St. Mary’s appears ready and willing to make some noise for the Flyers this year.
While it was a good chance to see the Flyers for the first time this year, the overall impression of the evening was a bit mixed. Mark Adams did his best to keep the crowd involved, but a magic act and other novelties before the meat and potatoes of the evening made their entrance long overdue.

Once player introductions for both the mens and womens team were complete, the women took the floor for a few minutes of layup exercises then held a short scrimmage. The men then took the court and had a 20 minute running-clock scrimmage that gave everyone a chance to work up a short sweat before the approximately 3,000 in attendance. A slam dunk competition ended the evening with Tony Stanley throwing down an acrobatic windmill to take top honors over Yuanta Holland.
