The 3-pt shot has haunted the Flyers all season, especially when they rely on it and forego an inside game to help balance the attack. While the Flyers blistered the nets for 11 treys in 19 attempts in Saturday’s road victory over the DuquesneDUQUESNE UNIVERSITY

Colors: Red and Blue Dukes, the Flyer interior game was potent as well — and this balanced equation led to an easy victory and Dayton’s first conference road victory of the year. Tony Stanley’s on-off switch was predictably on during Saturday’s game, due to his 2-17 FG effort in Tuesday’s loss at Xavier. The Flyer senior finished with 26pts against the Dukes, while Green, Holland, Marshall, and Waleskowski finished in double figures as well.
The first 12 minutes of contest was up-and-down as both teams found little resistance by the opposing defense. The lead tossed back and forth until the Flyers slowly took control on a flurry of three-point shots by Ramod Marshall — three in a row in fact — that gave Dayton a nine point advantage and early control of the game. Dayton treaded water for the remainder of the half and took a 40-31 lead into the locker room.
The Dukes made a brief run at the beginning of the second half however and trimmed the Dayton lead to just a point before the first media timeout, but the Flyers put a run on a run of their own and the Dukes went iceberg cold for the rest of the contest that allowed the Flyers to put things on cruise control the rest of the way. So cold in fact was Duquesne that they went nearly 14 minutes without a made basket in the second half.
David Morris finished the game with a career-high 11 assists, but the Flyers got strong performances from everyone on the team. Keith Waleskowski scored 12pts and had 3rbs — not the best numbers he’s put up — but Dubya played perhaps his best game as a collegian, setting screens, blocking shots, boxing out, and denying interior players the opportunity to make a move to the basket. Marshall converted all three of his treys and assumed the 3-PT FG% lead on the team after Saturday’s performance. Green added a workman-like 12pts and 7rbs and Yuanta Holland awoke from a slump with 10pts and 5rbs along with some more energy in his step. Sammy Smith sank a trey — something he’s had problems doing all season — and Sean Finn came off the bench in the second half to grab six boards to go along with a dunk in just seven minutes of action.
Dayton shot .500% from the floor and attempted 19 FTs, two things the Flyers have had trouble doing in prior games.
