Former Centerville team mates enter portal

Guard Gabe Cupps Indiana

Forward Jonathan Powell WVU... WVU coach just took IU job.

Could Powell follow to IU?

Or does UD have a chance with both guys?

My guess is, Powell follows the money, whatever the source. He switched high schools. He’ll switch colleges.

I’m guessing they saw a need to get more size on the wings…and had the pockets to make that happen.

He is very athletic and seems to have a good stroke.  Granted, the competition is not the same and it is a highlight reel but he looks good!

What is the back story?  How does a kid like this fly under the radar?  Was he a late bloomer?  Did he grow a bunch?

If it’s Lexie’s brother - not surprised he can dunk. We need to get these kids’ DNA and Obi’s. Then test everyone we are looking at as recruits to see how close they can match up. Obi and Lex took their programs to new heights at least in recent history. We need more like them. DNA testing is the way to go. Lol

Agree x100.  Lex was NEVER supposed to play the front row in college. Mind over matter to the nth degree and she made it happen. And now she is overseas playing pro.

Nice article about Luke. It sounds like he may not have reached his ceiling in high school. He sounds like a very athletic kid who has always been able to shoot. There are some players who don’t understand their potential until later in the college journey. It would be a risk to take him, but the reward could be tremendous.

Craft would be a great get. It looks like the competition will be stiff. My guess is he would be more of a 3 if Bennett is at the 2. Do we really have a shot with him?

Seemed like he had a good attitude when I saw him play, he hustled and played hard. Hustling definitely helps: get the most out of your ability and outwork some opponents.

Reed Bailey, 6’10” 230 from Davidson is in the portal.  He scored 19 points against Dayton.

Kentucky supposedly interested in him. If true, we read the first chapter of that novel last year.

On X, it says he visits UD tomorrow and DePaul on 4/12. That should give AG time to hand him off for NIL negotiations before his trip to DePaul. Hope this isn’t one of those deals where it hurts to be first.

I see that Jacob Conner's brother has decommitted from Wright State. Does anyone know if he is any good? 6'6" guard from Alter.

If I’m not mistaken, he averaged a bit over 10 ppg this year. I’m not sure he’s quite the player UD is looking to sign.

There are a lot of players in the portal that I hope UD is NOT looking to sign.  We don't need average ... Sorry ..... Not Sorry

It looks like the 5 remaining guys on the roster are likely to stay. Bennett, L’Etang, Simon, Conner, and Mousa. So, we still have a bit of a nucleus…but we still need to pickup some starters and bench strength in The Portal.

Mousa is the curious one (although I was surprised at Allen)... Does Mousa like UD/AG that much?  Does he get that he is a three year project and is playing the long-game?

A starting PG is a must and #1, Defensive focused wing is #2 and a beefy F/C is #3.

I think AG will focus on guys with 2+ years of eligibility though after Posh and Key.

Oh Great!  60% of the returnee's contributed < 1% of the production for last season!  So we start off on a deficit in scholly players with 'experience' plus the critical need for some viable scholly players worth the NIL $ we will be giving them.

Are you so looking forward to next season? Yep, I thought so!

Golly, I bet there are some intramural teams on campus that could beat this group.  Next season could be a massive train wreck.

I'd consider us bringing back about 1.5 starters.  We need a 15 and 8 kind of big man in the middle to be starting for us.

I know you’re not high on Frenchie, but he will be a force and more than some mass stuck in the paint. He’ll be in Deuce’s neighborhood by his senior year. If you want the Rollo-dream like immovable paint mass, you’ll be waiting until AG resigns.

I like Frenchie. But Grant doesn't have until his senior year to return to the NCAAs. It's likely Dance or bust next year. We will need an instant All Conference solution from the portal at the 5 spot. A Josh Cunningham as the absolute baseline.

He needs a high end PG before a 5. Frenchie’s D will improve with strength and a few months to process what he learned. We need better play at the 1, consistent production from the 3, and a solid 4. It would be a huge step forward if we landed Craft. He’s just below Cupps in the portal rankings. He would be a great piece in the 3 guard offense.

That was meant to read that Craft is just below Cupps. I’ve made the correction.

A pre-injury Josh Cunningham...fixed it for you.

Thats why I said at a minimum. Didn't mean it would be ideal. But even post-injury Josh is better than any post player we currently have.  We cannot swing and miss on a A10 1st/2nd team center and a point guard transfer. And both guys better have some and play both ways because defense is our kryptonite.

L'Etang is good and will just keep getting better as his body matures, IMO.  But I don't care if we have Holmes back, you have to have some depth in the middle.  So, it's not even an argument or debate about having another good big.  It goes without saying, IMO.

Since we have 5 returners and a couple of frosh, we need depth at all positions.

With the NIL in it's current form, I feel like we are the villagers in "The Magnificent Seven" trying to hire gunslingers to save us from the bandits.  I've not been sure where all of this NIL settles, but I don't like the current look of things.  Forgive me for not being excited about henchmen who move in and out of the university as a business.  Not the fault of the players, but the construction of the system.

Some rumblings on Facebook about the visit being canceled by the staff. Unless Craft has a whole cemetery full of skeletons in his closet, I hope that was just a rumor.

That would be crazy but could indicate that AG  is cooking up something. We know he holds his cards tight. He’s definitely a man of few words. I just can’t believe that something more doesn’t get posted by someone else. Recruits like to talk, right?

Hard to believe he has any skeletons that Xavier and Miami didn’t know about. I don’t think he would've been accepted at either school if there were any problems.

Bryce Hopkins from Providence to St. John's apparently for a cool $3.75M...outbid Cooley at Georgetown, who was the favorite to land him, by quite a bit from what I hear. This is just stupid money being thrown around.

I think Mr. Anthony Grant is in a juxtaposition.  On one hand, it is exciting to build a whole new team around a sophomore center with great potential.  On the other hand, ii is a great risk as you don’t know about transfers until you get them in house.  You don’t really know what you got.

Regarding Craft, hard to believe, but DePaul was better this year, plus they have a proven hc with Holtmann, so they may actually offer some competition from that standpoint. No idea how much NIL $ they have.

And Holtmann changed his look this year, new eyeglasses I think, plus maybe a new haircut, or he lost some hair or something, I didn't even recognize him when I first saw him this year on tv.

DePaul was Torvik #109 this year, their 5th best year in the last 18 years.

Make no mistake, Holtmann is a good coach in the right environment. He was in that environment at Butler. He was decent at tOSU, but “decent” doesn’t cut it in the B1G, which is why he’s no longer in Columbus.

Different schools have different expectations...he was 5/7 making the ncaat at OSU with 3 round of 32 appearances...not bad at all

Meechie Johnson Jr.  will transfer back to USC for his sixth year.  So three years at OSU and three at USC.  No word yet on his seventh year.

Just silly!

Probably will not hear much until after the NCAA is over. Coach Grant will wait so he can tell us the final four players that are Amusing coming to U D .

Not a transfer, but it looks like RJ Greer has committed to Davidson after decommitting from NC State. Guess he never really had UD on his radar despite his dad on the Flyers’ staff. Creates an interesting A-10 dynamic of coach/son as competitive opponents once or twice a year.

Meanwhile, we’re about the only A-10 team yet to announce any new commitments, whether from portal, high school or overseas. Gotta wonder why recruitment news is nowhere to be found … so far.

Maybe they are going to do a 'revel' all at once, you know like a red carpet thingy!

Of course, they also could have some issues with bringing in someone? Nah! Right?

No one has heard, seen or read anything about visits?  No rumors? Nadda ...

With the needs we have you would think that the open roster spots would be filling up by now, maybe even a little at a time.

Maybe 4 spots are on their way after the Four Number 1's finish playing!  Ya think? Sweaty

Too late on Jermahri Hill from Ball State as he commits to George Mason.  Dayton will see him as an opponent.

Kam Craft apparently rescheduled his Dayton visit — now April 7, this Monday, according to Cincinnati.com. DePaul still in the mix (with an April 12 visit) and several big boys showing interest. Will take some serious dollars to reel him in, I suspect.
