So the Bengals tag Tee Higgins. Is a trade imminent? Cut so far are Alex Cappa and Sheldon Rankins. Strong rumors that Hilton and Hubbard will be cut.
Seems like defense and offensive line are the problem areas.
The only problem with paying Burrow, Chase, Tee, and Hendrickson is that there is not as much $ left for everybody else.
Burrow needs to do that what Tom Brady did and take less $ so there is more $ for everybody else.
Iinm, Brady did not defer his $, he just straight up took less so that there was more for everybody else.
Also listed as problem areas by several commentators are LB, RB and S
Sam Hubbard retired.
Bengals resign Mike Gesicki for three years, and Tanner Hudson for one year. Trey Hendrickson is said to be seeking a trade, which means the Bengals are not going to sign an extension.
They need to try to keep Hendrickson. The Chase new contract might be for the most $ ever for a non-qb in Bengals? or NFL? history.
Good job re-signing Gesicki.
Bengals signed Packers nose tackle T.J. Slaton on a two-year deal. The 6-4, 330-pounder is a run stopper.
They aslo signed their free agents: Edge, Joseph Ossai and lineman, BJ Hill for three more years; and a two-year, $5 million deal for Eagles backup linebacker Oren Burks.
There are rumors that Aaron Rodgers will sign with the Steelers. I hope it doesn't happen, he is still a very good player IMO.
Bengals are in need of a couple of free agents and are doing nothing right now. Contracts sound closer for Chase and Higgins, whatever that means. No news on a Hendrickson trade. If that happens the Bengals will get about a 5th round pick for him.
I am concerned about spending all this $ on Chase and Tee. I know that the NFL is largely about the passing game now, but our offensive line and defense stink.
I agree. I have always said sign Chase and trade Higgins.
Vonn Bell has not signed, nor has Mike Hilton. Not sure what they will do at safety and cornerback, although they have players to try at the latter. Safety may be a draft choice if the right guy is there.
They better sign Hendrickson, or a similar free agent.
Bengals asking for a first round pick for Hendrickson, which means they may not trade him.
Don't trade him, give him his $. 4 guys are going to eat up all the $ if they re-sign him.
The Cincinnati Bengals are hosting offensive lineman Lucas Patrick on a free-agent visit Thursday, according to a report Wednesday via Twitter/X from Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz.
Patrick, 31, has played guard and center during his eight NFL seasons. He played in 11 games last season for the New Orleans Saints, starting 10 of them. He did not play in the Saints' final two games of the season because of a knee injury.
They signed Patrick. The Bengals are looking to upgrade guard, and they think the 6-3, 313-pound Patrick offers enough strength, flexibility and experience to put him in the mix. He turns 32 during the first week of his ninth training camp and has started 58 games in the decade at both guards and center for the Packers, Bears and Saints.
I guess Aaron Rodgers is drawing interest from the Steelers and Vikings.
Bengals...pick #17...they select Shemar Stewart...DE...Texas A&M
I am fine with this pick, the defense was terrible last year.
Glad they picked defense. Stewart is a physical phenom, but has been terrible sacking the QB.
Offensive line likely IMO needs to be addressed also.
Seems like DT, LB, and the defensive secondary also has needs.
I read that the Saints may also want Rodgers. He doesn't seem in any hurry to sign with anybody.
Not sure what he is waiting on.
From the link, Pro Football Focus, Bengals 2nd round pick:
Cincinnati Bengals: Offensive Guard
The Bengals addressed their glaring need along the defensive line by drafting Shemar Stewart and should turn their attention to the other side of the trenches on Day 2. Neither Lucas Patrick nor Cordell Volson were among the 35 highest-graded guards last season, so Cincinnati should be targeting someone like Jonah Savaiinaea or Tate Ratledge in the second round
