Could be the Reds next closer.
Fall League Reliever of the Year: Luis Mey, RHP, Reds
A 23-year-old Mey emerged as the AFL’s ultimate fireballer and top closer this fall, recording six saves (in six chances) and allowing only one hit in 8 2/3 scoreless innings across eight dominant appearances. Mey was the only pitcher to eclipse 100 mph with a pitch this fall, according to Statcast. And he did so with regularity, topping 100 mph 30 times, 101 mph ten times and reaching as high as 101.8 mph. But the real key was Mey’s ability to harness his stuff in the strike zone after struggling with control during the regular season (7.0 walks per nine). He issued only two free passes all fall.
In what may turn out to be an 'oh s**t' moment for the Reds, Nick Martinez accepted their $21 million offer. So it appears, of course, he did not get that kind of money on the free agent market. The Reds with so many needs and so little money can ill afford paying a "maybe" good pitcher those bucks.
Reds trade minor league catcher Jackson and reliever Fernando Cruz to the Yankees for catcher Trevino. He does not hit much, but is considered one of the best defenders in the game.
Mark Sheldon, "The Reds continued efforts to shore up areas of need on Wednesday when they acquired left-handed reliever Taylor Rogers and cash from the Giants for Minor League right-handed reliever Braxton Roxby.
According to a source, Cincinnati will receive $6 million in the deal after approval from Major League Baseball. That will offset half of Rogers' $12 million salary for 2025. He can be a free agent after the coming season, when his three-year, $33 million contract expires.
In 64 appearances covering 60 innings last season, Rogers posted a 2.40 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP while walking 22 batters and striking out 64. However, most of his outings were not considered to be in high-leverage situations."
"The Reds have made several moves this offseason, including agreeing to a one-year, $5 million contract with free agent outfielder Austin Hays on Tuesday -- according to a source."
"The Cincinnati Reds have signed veteran lefty Wade Miley to a minor league contract, sources tell ESPN. Miley, 38, is recovering from elbow surgery after missing most of last season while playing for the Milwaukee Brewers. He's expected to return early in 2025"
Lots of positive, albeit minor moves.
Yahoo Sports prediction for the 2025 Reds: tied for 5th place in the NL Central with Pittsburgh, winning slightly more than last year.
Cincinnati Reds
Projected record: 78-84, 19.5% odds to make the playoffs, 11.5% odds to win the division

USA Today prediction...Reds 81-81, 3rd place in NL Central
Reds were winning 3-2 entering the 9th, lost 6-4
Reds are in trouble if Gibaut is their closer.
De la Cruz used a torpedo bat last night. single, double, 2 homers and 7 RBI's. Francona says it is the player.
Dodgers 8-0
Padres 7-0
Braves 0-7
Rockies 1-5
I'm betting on the Reds tonight... to score a run.
Reds score 3 runs in two days, but take two from #1 San Fran on great starting pitching. First Greene, then Lodolo pitches lights out.
Spiers goes from a starter to the minors after a terrible outing. Andrew Abbott is expected to come off of the IL to take his start. Also McLain to the IL and Benson and Marte called up.
The Reds get McLain and Hays back and win 8-4 on Lux and Hayes big nights. Now in second place.
EDLC? or somebody got picked off tonight at 2nd base. The Reds baserunner was on 2nd base and I guess the pitcher must have read the base runner's mind and caught the base runner trying to steal 3rd, the base runner made it halfway to 3rd, but the pitcher turned around just before throwing a pitch to home plate and caught the runner and got the runner in a run-down. Sloppy base running. There was only 1 out before the base runner got caught.
The new look Reds looked like the old look Reds. Four errors, that could have been six, and some poor relief pitching did them in in ten innings of good offense. EDLC is a great player, but he sure can suck on defense.
Reds 24
Orioles 2
In Baltimore yesterday
The most runs ever by the Reds was 30 on 6/18/1893 vs. Louisville...Reds scored 14 in the first inning...30-12 final score...at League Park(iinm same general area as Crosley Field).
The Reds also scored 26 vs. the Boston Wranglers on June 4, 1911.
The Reds scored 24 on May 19, 1999.
The Reds became only the second team in modern day MLB history to lose three consecutive games by a score of 1-0 and then score 24 runs in a game just under 3 weeks later.
I watched the end of the Reds at Rockies game tonight, the Reds won 8-7.
It looked like they might have had snow flurries there before or during the game, the Reds' dugout barrier looked like it had snow on it.
Reds win their fourth straight (okay they only beat Colorado who is a AAA team), but they take solid control of 2nd place. Hays at .388 and Lux at .333 are solid acquisitions.
The Reds have dropped to a losing record. No hitting and no closer. If they are waiting for Diaz to regain his form, forget about it. Any fan could see he was done last year. So why did they not get a closer in the off season? Pagan blew the save last night. Then in the tenth they pitch Richardson, who was in the minors earlier in the day.
Multiple good starting pitching prospects. Trade one for a closer.
