Dayton La Salle part # 1
Dayton scores two early goals in the downpour. Goins and Huber, the usual playmakers capitalized on a disorganized defense. Rain has mostly let up now. Game is starting to settle down as well but Dayton managing to keep an 2/3 of the time of possession. All chances have been Flyers. I think shots in goal is 3 to 0 at the midway through the first half.

La Salle fought through tight defending and scored a goal in the 49th. Really nothing could have been done to stop a perfectly threaded ball. We are lucky it wasn't a card actually for doing too much to try to stop it. Play happened right in front of me, I thought I saw interference in the box. Our defenders were out of position, and we may have been holding on to the scorer (Rooney) as she received the pass. Ref didn't call advantage or anything, but he decided to let a lot of contact go.

Injury timeout. La salle goalie taken down in the box while defending. No call no foul.

Play has resumed. La Salle is really fighting to maintain this half.

3-2 La Salle final. Six losses in a row at McCarthy stadium. Just not enough presence of mind today to hold a ball in the second half. Like totally outplayed.rematch next Saturday, same spot!

Up 2 goals early and cannot hold it. Very disappointing. A win and we play first A-10 tournament match at home with a decent chance for a win and clinch a winning record for the season. Now, with the loss, must go back to Philly and play La Salle again. Will be very difficult to win and now there is only a small chance for a winning record. Yuch.

guy sitting near me said we played like we had a plane to catch instead of business to take care of. This one stings but we will have to bounce back quickly. of course UMass loses today which means we actually fall two spots (3 to 5) instead of one. Winner gets at St Louis next, instead of a winnable game on a neutral site against a somewhat less formidable colonials/hawks team.

Very disappointing after going ahead 2-0 in the first six minutes of the game. After an even half in the stats, LaSalle scored three unanswered goals after intermission, outshooting UD 10-4 and 4-0 in corner kicks.
We surrendered 3rd place, an A10 tourney home game vs #6 seed, and in 99% probability a winning season. That said, LaSalle is probably the better team and is difficult to beat at home. Its been a long time since we won there on the turf. Without seeing the game because of no video, I suspect the two early goals we got were from extenuating circumstances -- defensive miscue or something. We dont have the offense or execution to just out-execute an opponent on the road with 2 goals in the first 6 minutes. Again just a guess.
We won a total of 1 road game all year -- against bottomfeeder SBU. The chance we win an A10 Tourney road game at LaSalle or anywhere else is about 10%.
So much at stake, 45 minutes away, and yet we're still searching for that old Flyer killer instinct that put opponents out of their misery. But you must capitalize when the ball and scoreboard are turning friendly. Head Coach Eric Golz cant be happy with today's result, but when starting 7 true frosh, these are the difficult growing pains a program must endure in their maturation process. The lessons are oftentimes painful.
I didnt think we'd score at all so perhaps Im being too greedy. But, once things play out and you're up 2-0, you have to hold on. But I doubt many Flyer fans thought we would, and I suspect most LaSalle fans still felt they were squarely capable of getting 3 goals in the last 85 minutes while shutting UD out.
I think you could have made a case for Golz being A10 COY had UD finished 3rd today. With 7 frosh in the starting XI, that's about as good as one could have possibly hoped -- it would have been "best of the rest" considering how far SLU and GW were above everyone else in the league.
We lost on every scorecard today.
