Jalen and playing off the ball
I couldn't help but notice that in the Buck's first game (Jalen DNP in game 2), he was used as a 2 guard. He did not bring the ball up the court or run the offense. This is something us Flyer fans are familiar with, as AG often attempted to get Jalen off the ball (using Rodney and Weaver at the point for example).
Is there something that all of these bright basketball minds understand that we simpleton fans don't? Why on Earth would an NBA scout want Jalen to play off the ball? If you had any vision of Jalen one day making it on an NBA roster, wouldn't it be as a point guard?

Quite frankly, the Bucks may think he is not quick enough for dribble penetration in the NBA. Not to mention, he is a good square-up/step-back three-baller.

I tend to agree, if he's not a PG then he's not on the roster. Don't bother giving him a uniform.

While Obi is lighting up the summer league, Jalen and Ibi are not. Crutcher is really struggling, getting few minutes and performing very poorly when he is playing. Ibi is getting a little more PT, starting a game or two and playing fair. Reviewing the summer league stats you can see a number of players we are familiar with like McKinley Wright who seems to be doing fairly well. Other examples include Ryan Daly, Joel Axel Gudmunson, Nazriah Carter, all doing poorly so far.

Jalen started, played 25 minutes, scored 10 points on 4-5 shooting, had 2 rebounds and 5 assists, and would have had more assists if players had missed easy shots. While his summer has been inconsistent, I wouldn't say he's really struggled so much as not had an opportunity to get into the flow. Yesterday he did and showed he's capable.

He was bound to have a good night given the minutes. Glad to see this. Ibi has been playing consistently as well. You kind of know what you get with him though, whereas with minutes increased Jalen is going to produce more and more.

Bucks play at 4pm ESPN news. Hoping Jalen gets solid minutes.

I think in situations like Jalen is in; he doesn’t have much hope of making the team. His only chance is: 1) a salary dispute of one or two players above him in the pecking order or 2) injuries to one or two players above him in the pecking order. Then he needs to make the most of his opportunities. Jalen needs to have the right attitude about all of this. I always thought that Scoochie Smith had a great attitude about this when he was at the Cleveland Cavaliers. Keep in mind, I am NOT wishing injuries on anyone. Injuries are awful. I would never wish that on anyone.

Moving up the pecking order is going to be tough. Jalen simply has to be better. Which is difficult when everyone else is also trying to be better. Players hit their peak around 26-29. Anyone this close who continues to grow should (theoretically) be able to crack an NBA roster in their late 20s. It doesn't work that way, though, because without playing against actual NBA talent it's hard to grow as much as needed and reach that peak potential. Many summer league players who don't make the NBA won't grow the way they could if they did make the roster. And, more importantly, many of the roster spots will go to young-20s players who have 'potential' instead of to late-20s players who are currently a bit better. There are only so many roster spots to go around.
