Luke Frazier enters the transfer portal

Not really a surprise... Best of luck Luke!

Luke Frazier confirmed this for me and says he will be looking for the right fit. He had some health setbacks early in season and appeared in only two games as a freshman. Best of luck to him.

Probably best for the program to be able to use that scholarship elsewhere. Hopefully Frazier blossoms elsewhere but he didn’t show any flashes of promise in what we saw, and he was unable to contribute. Best of luck to him!

I am guessing it was a combination of things with Luke. I am sure missing all of that time didnt help. Have no idea what it is like to come back after surgery but I wish him well.

I hate that it didn't work out for him here. An Ohio guy who called Dayton his dream school.
Wish him good health and success.
I do not think (and hope) there will anymore transfers.

I remember him saying Dayton was his dream school, then the Covid protocols and then the appendicitis and he was behind. Was really hoping he'd make it as a Flyer. Best of luck to you, Mr. Frazier.

Good luck Luke, I hope you find the right school and have future success. I figured something was up when he wasn’t with the team for the Memphis game.

Just a bad recruitment. Sometimes you take a flier and hope it works out. He had no other offers even remotely at our level. Hope he finds a school that fits his skills. It sure wasn’t here.

Posts like this make me hope Luke comes into UD Arena with his new team and puts up 32 points and 12 assists, in a double overtime one point lose of course.

A college coach once told me the blue blood programs like Kentucky, NC etc... have a lock on the top talents like Zion, etc... After that, it is crap shoot trying to figure who will develop and shine. Nobody offered Obi...Look where Jalen was going to attend before decided on UD. Lots of players don't pan out and lots exceed the high school recruiting ratings. Like playing blackjack.

You just never know...

You just can’t say good luck to the kid without taking a parting shot. Typical crap from a horrible “fan”.

I hate to see this. I thought he would stick around for at least one more year. I offered a bet for a beer to someone in a prior thread that Lukas would stay but I don’t think he took me up on the bet.

Maybe Miami would be a good school for Frazier. I think his HS teammate went there.

Well...two scholarships available.

Good luck Luke. I imagine AG had a post season talk with him, as he does all returning players, and the competition was about to ramp up quite a bit with the highly rated incoming class. Hope the young man finds the right fit.

Sorry to see, but perfectly understandable and not unexpected at this point. I hope he lands somewhere that he can play and succeed. Maybe a MAC school? Heck, maybe Wright State? At any rate, good luck Luke, wherever you land.

I thought the same. Late start getting to campus, lost development/practice from covid, appendicitis. Hard to get going in those circumstances

Next year I thought with a normalish offseason he’d have a chance to compete for minutes

I am sure Grant, who saw Frazier play in practice, and Frazier himself, know that he probably cannot compete at the level UD wants to be at. Why Grant signed him we will never know, because he is not on the same level as the guards coming in next year, or Weaver or Cohill. Maybe it is his size and attitude.

BTW in ESPN's grades, Malachi, Greer and Amzil are given an 80, second to Holmes 86. Washington is graded 79. Reid is a 90. Luke was never graded.

While true, neither was Obi. What did AG see? Maybe he saw something in his shooting form that made him think the guy could be a dead eye shooter with enough toughness to compete on defense.

What did anyone see in Trey? Too short, not a good shooter, not a crazy leaper, not a great passer. Just a winner.

Gads some of you people would have 0 scholarship players. Some players hit the competition and explode with effort, some shrink, some decide their future is different, and some just flat out miss home / their friends / want a different campus environment. You never know for sure.

I think the question to why Grant signed him and now he cannot compete with our other recruits is obvious. Grant signed him before we shocked the world by being 29-2 and ranked #3 in the country and he signed all these guys coming in next season afterward when our brand skyrocketed.

Yep. Laughable that people want to say the kid is not good enough and what did AG see in him especially after what this kid went thru. Grant doesn't give offers out for ****s and giggles. I can guarantee you he would have been, at worst, a fine contributor to the 20 plus TO's this senior-laden team committed almost on a nightly basis.

He was a pretty early verbal commit, iirc, and for all we know if the kid stayed at UD he could become an all A10 player. He, especially, had a very difficult year with injuries early, illness, a surgery, etc. Could be a multitude of reasons why he's leaving but leave it to some of the experts on Pride to say he's simply not good enough or talented enough.

Recruiting HS kids, especially those not rated as McDonalds AAs, is a crapshoot. kids mature and advance at different rates. The problem is a coach always has to recruit to the best of his ability and sometimes that means kids are “recruited over”. Luke may become a very good player down the road, but we live in a win now world and when you can recruit 4 stars, kids like Luke sometimes get caught up in the wash.

btw, maybe this is reading too much into things, but of the 3 players that weren't suited up to play in the NIT(not sure if any of those three were even in attendance), two have now put their names in the portal. Is anyone else concerned about RJ? I am because this team had 15 days to rest between games and it seemed odd to me that they weren't ready to play.

I sure hope not. I really like what I've seen from him and look forward to his future for the Flyers.

In the Twitter comments of Rodney’s announcement that he is transferring someone asked the same question and David Jablonski replied saying “he was hurt”.

I was already thinking it about Luke and RJ the day of the game when I noticed they weren't there.

Maybe so, but was he there in attendance? Would seem to me that a player unable to play due to injury could/would still be there in support of their teammates. Just to keep the peace, I sometimes think they might use a stubbed toe as an injury to a player that has no interest in flying to Texas and being locked in a bubble in secondary tournament because he's looking to change uniforms anyway.

Not saying that RJ isn't still a loyal Flyer, just that I don't put any stock into what a newspaper reporter says who's close with the team and probably helps do their PR work for them.

Just in the few minutes he played one could see that he looked physically overmatched. Will be watching him wherever he winds up ( undoubtedly at a far lower level) to see if the prediction of an all A10 caliber player emerges. But I sincerely doubt it. He will wind up on the same scrap heap as Pollicelli, Davis, Crosby et al.

Don't think this holds much water, because everyone expected Chatman to leave. Whether he player or not (or attended or not) is immaterial to the fact that he was more than likely on his way out. Should we assume Crutcher, Watson and Tshimanga are returning since they did play?

This presumes Grant sat down the guys and asked who was on their way out and who wasn't, then made a decision on who was going to travel.

Not just trying to suggest I have the answer or anything, but just testing the logic (and hoping Blakney stays).

The reason it popped in my head was because it popped in my head on Saturday when I found out that both RJ and Rodney weren't available and hurt. 15 days since the last game and they aren't able to play, that seemed suspicious to me. Also, I heard on here(didn't pay attention myself) that they weren't even at the game. Then also heard that neither was Frazier. I could see, after playing a full, disappointing season within a bubble and getting a charity NIT bid(charity because it took a lot of teams declining for the Flyers to get in), having no desire to play in it because they are over with this season and over with the Flyers.

I really don't think the coach would leave them at home due to injury unless it was unsafe for them and would expect it was their own decision if they indeed did not make the trip. All of those things together makes me wonder.

That's all. If RJ leaves, then I'll assume I was right, if he stays, I will know I was wrong. I very much want to be wrong as I think he's going to be a great player.

Oh, and something else. I'm starting to believe "Injury" is becoming the catch-all reason for any situation a player is unavailable. I personally don't have a problem with it but I try and read between the lines. I never remember prior to CAG taking over, the Flyers losing so many players "due to injuries" during the season as has happened this season. Yeah, we lost Pollard for a period, Kyle also, but now it seems like every single game there's a player or more unavailable "due to injury".

It's probably a good strategy because it makes it more difficult to figure who's in the dog house and who's not.

Since both Rodney (on crutches) and RJ had leg injuries, that could contribute to why they didn't travel to Texas. FWIW, RJ's mom put posts in her instagrams stories about both the men and women in the NIT, so she hadn't quit following or showing support even though he wasn't there.

Mostly agree, though Bass and Detwon Rogers had unspecified injuries for most of a season. Well, Rogers’ “deep thigh bruise” did morph into academic issues after a while.

There were obvious chemistry issues involving Rodney this year if you paid attention to body language. Whether he was the problem or not is not my concern. But something was off. That's disconcerting given the apparent excellent chemistry of last year's team. I hope they get that magic back with the right bunch of players. Watching Alabama last night reminded me a lot of last year's Dayton team from a team chemistry perspective.

I saw CAG's post-NIT game presser on the DDN website today and he confirmed Chatman had a sprained MCL and was on crutches and RJ had been suffering a while with a calf injury for which he had a medical procedure that will keep him sidelined for 4-6 weeks.

Does anyone know anything about Luke Frazier? To the best of my knowledge, it doesn’t look like he is enrolled/playing basketball anywhere.

I was just curious about his whereabouts and you just couldn’t resist taking another shot at the kid. Pathetic, you really have some issues.

why the smart arse remark?

why not just wish him well?

I know that is not what your character you created does,
but he was a student athlete here, and did not
hear any trouble making....

I just don't get you

The Luke Frazier mystery has been solved. He is sitting (in street clothes)on the Ohio University bench in their game against Kent State.

Does this mean he is on their roster and simply redshirting? I wish the young man well!

Very strange. On OU message board, they were speculating whether he was on their team or not since July. They finally confirmed it today, as you did. Why is he not listed on roster, not announced as a transfer to there and in street clothes when confirmed?

I have no idea...but the timing of after the first of the year might mean something. Maybe he didn’t enroll until 2nd semester? Again...no idea...but maybe academic? It is odd for sure.

I read somewhere that OU’s second semester hasn’t started yet which would explain his presence on the bench but in street clothes

Good choice for Luke. Go Bobcats! My daughter had some classes with Jeff Boals. He's a heckuva good guy and a good coach.

Good luck to the kid. He had to do what's beat for himself and I doubt Flyer PT was going to be easy to come by. And with Mongolian Mike incoming it wouldn't have been made any easier.
