BEVERLY HILLS (MI) — Time once again to empty the trash bin in my mind:
— UD loses by 4 to Eggs, despite the efforts of Kurt Huelsman:

Here’s what I think: When this play happened, I screamed and jumped out of my seat at the Elder Swampette’s place in Chicago. I couldn’t believe it!
I loved the defensive tenacity that UD played with for all 40 minutes. Wish the Flyboys could play offense with the same intensity. This clearly was a game the Flyers woulda, coulda, shoulda won, but didn’t. Things will be different on February 6th, I assure you.
— My UD classmate Tom Archdeacon on the lack of handshakes before the UD/X game:
Here’s what I think: C’mon Arch, do your freakin’ homework. The reason the two combatants didn’t exchange firm fives Saturday morning dates back to last year’s battle. In 2009, Dante Jackson and his X mates started woofing at the UD players and the Miscues subsequently turned their backs on the Flyers after the Anthem. Is that UD’s fault?
I also think the DDN needs to do something to screen their comments section. There are posts there from Swampy Meadows, SwampyMeadows, Swampy Meadow and The Real Swampy, none of them actually written by me, but rather by fans of the non-hand-shakers.
— Great in-depth game summary by OhioHighSchoolHoops.com on how Dayton Dunbar buried Chicago Whitney Young at the Flyin’ to the Hoop in Kettering:
http://www.ohshoops.com/2010/01/not-perfectbut-close.html
Whitney Young, which previously beat BG recruit Brandon Spearman and his Chicago Simeon mates, played this one without their budding star Sam Thompson.
Here’s what I think: I believe that Dunbar star Geron Johnson will attend prep school next year and, if he gets his scholastic house in order, BG will sign Johnson for UD as a Class of 2011 recruit.
— Nice video profile on Wayne HS star Travis Trice courtesy of Channel 7:
http://www.whiotv.com/video/21978203/index.html
Here’s what I think: BG has had a heart-to-heart talk with Travis and his mom and dad. The gist of the conversation? We really want you to be a Flyer, but here’s the deal: Juwan Staten is coming in next year and he will split time with Josh Parker, who will be a junior. We won’t need 3 PGs in 2011. Come to UD as a redshirt — you’ll have to pay your own way your freshman year — and start your playing career in 2012, splitting time with Juwan.
— UK’s Coach Cal was going to arrive at the Flyin’ to the Hoop via helicopter but had to scrap that plan and take Booster Airways instead, due to fog:
Ironically, his flight got redirected to Covington, KY and he had to rent a car and drive to Kettering from there. That’s a lot of someone else’s money being wasted in order for Cal to fly the 90 miles from Lexington to Covington.
Here’s what I think: Karma.
— 2010 UD recruit Ralph Hill got to strut his stuff at Trent Arena as well, according to the DDN:
Here’s what I think: Ralph Hill is going to be the steal of the Class of 2010 in Ohio.
— Ohio transplant Vinny Zollo is having a great junior year, according to Jody Demling at the Louisville Courier-Journal:
http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/demling/labels/Vinny%20Zollo.html
Here’s what I think: Of all the 2011 bigs that BG is recruiting (Jakarr Sampson of Akron SVSM, Anton Grady of Cleveland Central Catholic, Percy Gibson of Detroit Southeastern among them) I believe Zollo’s game is best suited for the Flyers.
— WSU got a good one in OSU transfer Walter Offutt:
Lost in all of this is the nefarious role that Ratface played in where Walter went. Originally ticketed for New Mexico, Matta refused to clear Offutt’s transfer to the Lobos, but would allow him to commit to the Raiders.
Here’s what I think: Typical Ratface move.
— Basketball gypsy Alex Legion left Illinois and is headed to Florida International to play for Isaiah Thomas, according to the Chicago Tribune:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/chi-30-illinois-basketball-dec30,0,3513963.story
Here’s what I think: Legion originally committed to Michigan; ended up at Kentucky; transferred to Illinois and will finish his career at FIU. Legion is a legend in his own mind.
— Dartmouth Head Coach Terry Dunn was forced to resign after his players went to the administration, according to Fox Sports Jeff Goodman:
Here’s what I think: Dunn’s entire staff from last year chose to leave. The players unanimously decided to boycott their next game unless Dunn was gone. Now that’s what I call a vote of confidence!
— Remember the name Trey Lyles:
According to the Indy Star, the 8th grader (Damon Bailey, anyone) is already being pursued by Matt Painter of Purdue and Tom Crean of IU.
Here’s what I think: Somewhere, Clark Francis of Hoop Scoop is saying “TOO OLD!”
— Another name to remember, courtesy of Rush the Court, is Kevin Laue:
http://rushthecourt.net/2009/05/26/kevin-laue-doesnt-need-a-hand-thankyouverymuch/
Here’s what I think: Good for you, Kevin.
— College Chalk Talk announced a strategic partnership with Blue Ribbon:
http://collegechalktalk.com/blueribbon/2009-10/1.18.10cctbr
Here’s what I think: I hope this means we get a free preview on the Flyers from Blue Ribbon like ESPN offered a few years back.
That’s it “From the Swamp.”
