BEVERLY HILLS (MI) –- As the summer “live” period is set to begin on July 6th it’s time for BG and the UD staff and every other college coach in America to kiss the wife and kids goodbye and hit the recruiting trail.

— Captain Obvious (alias Doug Harris) at the DDN lets us in on the secret as to what BG will be looking for — big guys:

The DDN does provide a nice little chart with the dates for the upcoming “evaluation” and “dead” college hoops recruiting periods.

— First stop: the LeBron James combination free-agent freak show and Nike camp in Akron that features BG target Trey McDonald (who has a wingspan listed at 7’0”) and CW:

— If you absolutely have to be the first person on your block to know where LeBron is going to sign, then you better hustle and register on his official website, which is “personally directed” by the King his own self:

Thankfully, the LBJ free-agent circus is supposed to leave town sometime later this week.

I like the IPS lists as they are made up of mostly guys from the Midwest that BG and crew have seen play and UD might have a shot at recruiting.

— If you are going to recruit a hoopster on name alone, this JUCO kid has got it made — God’s Gift Achiuwa:

— Looking ahead to 2012, Dave Telep at Scout.com provides some background on his Top 75:

And the actual rankings:

Lots of Indiana kids, but only one Ohioan (Elijah Macon of Columbus) and a single Michigander (Jordan Hare of Saginaw) Having grown up in Massachusetts, I never thought I would see the day when the Bay State would have more kids in the Top 75 (three) than Michigan or Ohio.

— Another 2012 list, this one mostly Midwest guys, courtesy of The Only Colors, which includes BG target Javontae Hawkins of Flint:

— If it happens once, okay, maybe you made a mistake. But when Marquette “un-recruits” a kid after he has already shown up on campus for the 2nd freakin’ year in-a-row, you’ve got a serious problem there, Buzz:

Last year, it was another Philly-area kid, Brett Roseboro, on whom Buzzy used the old “bait and switch” tactic. Roseboro eventually ended up at SBU. If I’m a coach recruiting any Philly player who is even remotely considering MU, I might want to bring this alarming trend up with the kid.

Shame on you, Buzz Williams
