BEVERLY HILLS (MI) — Trying to get myself all worked up for the rubber match between X and UD in the Last-Ever A-10 Atlantic City Funfest, but just can’t seem do it…at least not on paper. Oh, I’m excited alright, but also extremely confident in the Flyers’ ability to take care of business. With a 15 point X butt kicking at home and an oh-so-close OT loss at their place, there is no reason why UD should not prevail on a neutral court and put the Muskies out of their misery and into the NIT. Where BG’s teams always seemed to be running out of gas at this point in the festivities, Archie’s guys appear to be peaking at exactly the right time, short-handed and all.

Exhibit A would be the play of one Devin Oliver, this year vs. last. Hell, this month vs. last, for that matter.

I like our chances.

As Captain Ben Crenshaw said the night before the final round of the Ryder Cup at Brookline CC:

“I’m a big believer in fate. I have got a good feeling about tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, let’s see what we can find to occupy our feeble minds until game time:

— If anyone needs any motivation, just watch this Flyers 2011-2012 season video and you’ll be good to go:

It should be ephasized that this is the regular season video.

— Ben Weixlmann of Scout.com disagrees with all of the above and picks X over UD.

Bite me, Ben.

And while you’re at it, wouldn’t you like to buy a vowel?

— I think it’s very cool that the First Fan is coming to UD Arena for the First Four…and bringing the PM of England with him! You might not agree with his politics, but you gotta admit that having a guy in the White House who takes his hoops as seriously as we do can only be a good thing.

— Like most of you, I get pretty apoplectic while watching or listening to a UD game. It’s been a while since I have been as nerved-out as I was during the 2nd half of the UD/SBU A-10 Women’s Final. When I walked in the door after work, UD was up by 22 and cruising. And then the misses started missing…a lot. Thankfully, they hung in there and pulled it out!

Congrats to Jim Jabir, Justine Raterman and the ladies. Well done!

Guys?

— If you follow the “transitive properties” of this piece from The Wall Street Journal then UD could be NCAA Champs just as easily as Towson State, because the Flyers also beat UNC-Wilmington:

Question: Tell me one thing Quinnipiac University is known for other than conducting polls?

Answer: Quinnipiac President John Lahey is a University of Dayton grad. He was my brother’s fraternity brother in Phi Kappa Mu and my philosophy professor my junior year at UD.
