The UD men's basketball team hosted Saint Louis on Tuesday night in the return game of an annual home-and-home conference series between the former MCC and Great Midwest counterparts and current A10 members. The Flyers trailed by 13 at the half but flipped the stats after intermission to rally back for a 75-67 victory in front of another UD Arena sellout crowd of 13,409 fans. The victory keeps UD's hopes alive for a double-bye in the A10 tournament with one game left to play. Dayton improves to 21-9 (11-6) while the Billikens fall to 17-13 (10-7).
UD won 71-63 at Saint Louis on Jan. 31st in a game the Flyers led 37-25 at the half, stretched it out after halftime, then survived a two-point game in the final 10 minutes to make enough winning plays and earn the important road victory. Dayton held Billiken center Robbie Avila to just 4pts and 10rbs on 1-7 FG and a team-high seven turnovers before ultimately fouling out. Javon Bennett led the Flyers with 19pts. The Flyers were 9-2 against SLU in the last 11 games and 18-5 dating back to 2014 — the last time Saint Louis won consecutive games in the series. Dayton came into tonight’s contest with a 43-30 overall lead in the rivalry.
