Flyers Annihilate Revolutionaries 7-1

The UD Men's Soccer team returned to the pitch after a two-week layoff by hosting the George Washington Revolutionaries on Saturday evening at Baujan Field.  The sabbatical had no effect on UD's level of play as Dennis Currier's squad shredded GW 7-1 with the help of a Martin Bakken hat [.....]

The Dayton Flyers battled George Washington in their first true road game of the season on Saturday afternoon in the nation's capital, suffering a 82-62 defeat at the Charles E. Smith Center -- a long-time house of horrors for the Red and Blue that stayed true to form.  The Flyers fall to 11-4 (1-1) while the Revolutionaries improve to 12-3 (1-1).
Dayton topped the Revs 83-61 at UD Arena in last season's only meeting. DaRon Holmes II had 25pts and 12rbs while Koby Brea made five triples and finished with 17pts.  The Flyers entered Saturday as winners of seven of the last eight games in the series, but were just 2-5 in the last seven matchups in Foggy Bottom.  A long-time nightmare road venue for UD in A10 play, some of the most diabolical losses and last-second heartbreaks have taken place at the Smith Center over the last 25 seasons -- oftentimes against moribund GW squads that spontaneously combusted into Rucker Park basketball highlights at the expense of lethargic Flyer teams. The last six Flyer losses at GW were by margins of 7, 6, 1, 1, 2, and 3 points respectively dating back to 2008. Between 2004 and 2014, Dayton lost five games at the Smith Center by three points or less, and another one-possession defeat at UD Arena.
GW wasted no time doing what they seemingly always do -- shoot lights to start a game in their home gym against Dayton. Burying four triples by the first media timeout, the Revs opened up a 14-7 lead despite the absence of leading scorer Darren Buchanan...
