BEVERLY HILLS (MI) – Don Henley may have sung about “The End of the Innocence” but I am here with a simple, non-musical request:

Let’s put an end to the idiocy.

How many more stupid threads can one message board stand?

“CJ is transferring!”

No, he’s not.

“BG is going to DePaul!”

Not in this lifetime.

Is it really necessary to call for Coach Gregory to be fired after every single disappointing Flyer loss?

Is it?

It appears that the Dayton Daily News has found a very simple, yet effective way to end the idiocy in their comments section after Doug Harris’ Flyer hoops articles. This is something I have called for ever since there were 4 different responses in one string of comments from posters named “Swampy Meadows” or a derivation thereof, none of them written by yours truly.

What did the DDN do?

First, check out this blog piece from Thursday about the Flyers’ reliance on fast break baskets:

http://www.daytondailynews.com/dayton-sports/university-of-dayton-flyers/uds-reliance-on-fast-break-baskets-exposed-in-recent-losses-568917.html?more_comments=true&showComments=true

There are 33 comments, the majority of which are negative. The few salient observations are buried under a steaming pile of anonymously penned BS.

Now click on this item that Doug posted earlier today and scroll down to the comments section:

First of all, notice that there aren’t any comments (as of 9:30PM on Friday when I wrote this). Secondly, there are 5 little words that were not there before:

“Your e-mail address is required.”

What a difference a day makes, eh?

All I want to know is: why didn’t they think of this before?

I am convinced that most of the inane comments that plagued the DDN articles were not written by UD fans at all, but by our friends from the school to the south. I am also pretty sure that we won’t see as many comments and not nearly as much negativity in the DDN comments section as has been the case in the past.

Nice work, DDN.

That’s it “From the Swamp.”
