Emails…We Get Emails…We Get Stacks and Stacks of Emails!
Okay, so maybe we don’t get ‘stacks and stacks’ of emails here at “From the Swamp.” Sue me–I was trying to sound like Letterman when they read the letters from “Late Show” viewers, okay? So, maybe we only get the occasional trickle of emails-but we actually do get them!
The first is from some guy I never heard of. He kinda cheesed me off because he sent it addressed to Rieman and Churan, like they run this place or something:
Dear Chris and John:
Congratulations to you for bringing together Flyer fans and, more importantly, demanding civility, and encouraging substantive posts. Candidly, I only scan occasionally. Jim Meadows got my attention this morning because he’s wrong on a couple of nuts and bolts re the A-10 Tournament. Linda Bruno does not determine the site – she does not even have a vote. The twelve ADs make that decision. Of course, the Commissioner is at the table; and her opinions matter. Secondly, UD gave the A-10 a guarantee of $1,600,000 ($800,000 per year) to host the A-10 Men’s Basketball Championships.
Thought it was important to contact you since I would suspect the tournament and it’s future will remain a topic on UDPride for some time. I know this is a labor of love for both of you. You can be proud of your product to date. Go Flyers!
Ted Kissell
Who the heck is Ted Kissell anyway? Whoever he is, it’s nice to know he reads our stuff and seems to have some clue as to what’s going on-better than Dick Jerardi at the Philadelphia Daily News does, anyway.
Continuing with the subject of the A-10 coming to UD Arena, reader Jim Wolff sends a note, along with the ‘canned’ response that he and I both got from the aforementioned Dick Jerardi:
Jim:
Jerardi’s reply to me — I think he’s got a “canned” reply to those who question his column. I think the Palestra would be better than the Spectrum…between you and me, both places are dumps. Then again, look where you and I attend Flyer games.
Jim
Jim:
I just don’t think the A-10 is high profile enough to sell in Washington. RichmondUNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND
Established: 1830

Nickname: Spiders
Colors: Blue and Red and GW really have no huge following there. But I do understand what you are saying. Rotating would work for the ACC, but not the A-10. Which is why I think they should find a site and stay with it. My whole point was they were really successful at the Palestra and messed up the feeling of the tournament when they moved it to the Spectrum.
Dick
I’m confused…if he’s Jim, who am I? But we all know who Dick is, right kids?
Reader Joe Page provides a solution to my AOL gremlin problem:
Jim,
I am a transplanted Daytonian living in Iowa City (Hawkeye land, though being an Indiana grad, I am loyal to the Flyers and Hoosiers first) and enjoy your columns. I am happy you set that guy straight in Philly.
On AOL, check your filing cabinet under the Mail button. Old sent emails are stored there for quite some time.
Keep up the great work.
Joe Page
Now he tells me! Too late, though, Joe. For some reason AOL likes to gobble up my old emails and make them disappear.
Then there’s this short but sweet message:
Long Gone! I’m gone off this ridiculous Board. Have fun you juvenile imbeciles!
Masterofreality
Oh wait…that’s not an email to me, that’s a posting from the Xavier Message Board! It seems someone commandeered the X board from Gary Griffin and has all of Musketeer Land in an uproar. As UD Fan and frequent A-10 Message Board poster Chetburger noted on the same X board “this is the funniest thing I’ve seen in years.” Let’s hope their basketball team is in a similar state of disarray on January 26th!
Finally, reader Ray Hancart is looking for the John Chaney quote about the A-10 Tournament being held “in the sticks”:
Jim,
Great article on the post season tournament. I’m the Marketing Director for Redscare and was interested in doing a little something about Chaney’s comments for the Temple game. I cannot find the exact quote though and was wondering if you could send me a link or even the quote if you have it!
Thanks for your help!
Ray Hancart
Let me get this straight-the Redscare has a Marketing Director? Anybody know where Ray can find the actual quote? I know I saw it, but can’t recall where.
Keep those emails coming, boys and girls!
That’s it “From the Swamp.”
