BEVERLY HILLS (MI) –- Sampling the intro to the old ABC series “Wide World of Sports”:

“Spanning the blogosphere to bring you the constant variety of sport, this is “From the Swamp.” Let’s hit the links, shall we?

— Here’s a link to a CMU Recruiting Hot Board from Jamal Richards’ We Fly High Ballers blog that indicates who the Chips are recruiting in Michigan and at the same time gives us an idea about who UD is watching:

The only guys listed that Cornell Mann hasn’t looked at are Devon Long, Colin Voss and Maurice Jones….and how much do you wanna bet that he actually has seen them play, too? Even tho UD isn’t mentioned here, the Flyers are one of many programs in on Ziegler. Lanier Brown had previously said he was hearing from Dayton. The Flyer staff has also looked at Kamieniecki and Marble. How do I know? Because the players told me so when I saw them play this winter.

— Another great list from the WFHB blog: a breakout of who is playing for what Michigan-based AAU squad this summer:

— Worst job in the NBA? I nominate those security guys who are parked right behind the bench, parallel to the floor. Great seats, close to the action, but you can’t watch the game because if you do, then you aren’t doing your job. That would suck.

— Living in Detroit, I got to witness the ascension of the Detroit Pistons from NBA also-ran to the dominating “Bad Boys.” Chuck Daly, the guy pushing the buttons back then at the Palace passed away last week. Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe penned this fond remembrance of the guy that John Salley nicknamed “Daddy Rich”:

— It’s not every day that a baseball team scores 12 runs before they record a single out, but the Red Sox did so last week:

— Speaking of the Sawx, I hit the Boston Sports trifecta on Sunday night, as the Carmines took on the Tampa Bay Rays on ESPN; the Celts and Magic battled on TNT and Carolina and the Bruins traded checks on Versus. Best part of it was that all three of them actually won, the Sox and the C’s in rather dramatic fashion!

— Chris Wright can develop a consistent jump shot in order to succeed at the next level. How do we know? Meet the new ‘big guy who added a jumper to his arsenal’ poster child: Glen “Big Baby” Davis:

When KG went down, the emergence of “Big Baby” and his ability to nail the J has allowed the C’s to continue winning.

— Watch Pat Burrell’s reaction when the crowd at Fenway goes nuts after “Big Baby” hit the game winner for the Celtics:

— There is no longer any doubt about it: Manny Ramirez is a total knucklehead:

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/articles/2009/05/10/there_is_no_dodging_the_truth_this_time/

— Remember this name: Daniel Bard. The young man out of UNC has a legitimate 100 MPH fastball and just got called up to the majors:

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2009/05/11/fireballing_bards_promotion_comes_quick/

— Speaking of young hurlers, how about Zack Greinke of the KC Royals. He finally lost a game (1-0) but still threw well even in defeat:

— And who is the next pitching phenom on the horizon? Yet another name to file away for not-so-distant future reference: Stephen Strasburg of San Diego State, who is in line to get a gazillion dollar contract thanks to his reptile Scott Boras:
