— Yogi Berra was wrong…it ain’t over until you actually find out that it’s over. In the case of the Flyers losing to Tennessee Tech in the NIT, I didn’t even know that the game had been played until I opened the paper Saturday morning. I saw the “Game Postponed Due to Travel Problems” notice on ESPN’s Bottom Line ticker and took it at face value.

— Geez, when did USC Head Coach Henry Bibby turn into the Dahli Lama?

— Former “NYPD Blue” star Andrea Thompson resigned from my alma mater, CNN. Gee, who saw that coming?

— I don’t think Gonzaga is complaining anymore about only being given a #6 seed.

— I obviously didn’t get to listen to the crowd for the Flyers final game, but I gotta tell you, that was the loudest 7100 people I’ve ever heard against UDM.

— I nominate Mark Jones to take over from David Morris as Sean Finn’s personal motivator next year.

— Watching #16 seed Holy Cross battle #1 seed Kansas I kept thinking to myself that ESPN.com’s “Sports Guy” and HC grad Bill Simmons is probably soiling himself right now. Sure enough in a column the next day, he said that he was going berserk until the Jayhawks finally pulled away for the narrow victory.

— When I grow up, I want to style my hair just like ESPNews basketball commentator and former GW coach Tom Penders.

— If I’m Sammy Smith, I transfer to Cedarville.

— ESPN Classic showed the triple overtime playoff game from 1975 between the Celtics and the Suns the other day. At the time, I thought it was the greatest NBA game I had ever seen and nothing in the 27 years that have elapsed has changed my opinion.

— I guess the Salukis weren’t intimidated by the gazillion promos for “Season on the Brink” when they played Bobby Knight and Texas Tech, eh?

— Assuming James Cripe redshirts and Doug Scott qualifies, I believe that Logan White will have the biggest impact of the 4 signees next year.

— I have a good feeling that Alex Carmona will end up playing for UD, just not next year.

— I saw Jennifer O’Neill of “Summer of ’42” fame in a low budget movie the other night. Did you know she’s been married 9 times? She said she suffers from low self-esteem…what was your first clue, Jen?

— When did Pitt become a basketball power?

— It’s kinda fun to watch kids that OP recruited playing for other schools in the NCAA and NIT-guys like Chevy Troutman from Pitt, James Thuess from Syracuse, Harold Swanagan for ND, Larry O’Bannon at Louisville or Steve Logan at UC and wonder “what if?” Of course, OP can’t sign ’em all, only Rick Pitino is allowed to do that.

— Speaking of guys whom OP recruited, when Brett Nelson of Florida got into a fight with a teammate, you knew it was all over except for the crying in Gatorland.

— I bet the Flyers give the Dookies a game on national TV next fall at Cameron Indoor and I hope Vitale is there to see it.

That’s it “From the Swamp.”
