BEVERLY HILLS (MI) — Not sure who the heck Jeff Ermann is at The DDN — he is listed as a “Features Writer” but can’t recall him writing anything about UD hoops previously. Ermann makes an interesting point in the following piece, that 32 year old Archie Miller has an advantage over “old school” coaches because of his familiarity with the social media favored by today’s recruits.

Linky tweetness:

Only one problem with Ermann’s assessment: Archie is no doubt a prodigious emailer and text-messager, but he is just about as Twitter-averse as they get. If you recall, Coach Miller was proclaimed ‘the worst Tweeter of any head coach in college basketball’ by Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com.

You decide for yourself if Goodman is right:

It now appears that Archie deleted a series of Tweets made earlier this summer, as the only ones currently viewable are from his days working for Sean at U of A.

The solution: hire a “designated Tweeter.” It was obvious that BG’s Tweets were written by someone else, so perhaps Archie should go the same route.

Other than that, the piece Ermann penned provides a pretty good rundown on Archie’s recent recruiting efforts.

As to the current Flyer squad, the ban on Tweeting for public consumption that went into effect back on July 18, 2010 under BG seems to have been lifted, although a few players still restrict access to their Tweets.

Tom Ostrom: no Twitter account that I could find

It only stands to reason that if Archie is going to loosen up the offense from the predictable one employed by his predecessor that he would also liberate the players’ social media access from BG’s bondage as well.

“The Sweet Tweets of the Week” come to us from Devin Searcy, now playing basketball professionally in Japan:

“I have the coolest teammates a player could ask for… One of the first teams I’ve been on where everyone wants each other to do well.”

“Is it bad that I miss UD more than home??”

“What amount of money I’d give to walk around UD’s campus for a week with my friends…”

“16pts, 10rebs, 5blks, 3asts and a two point win at the buzzer, ain’t bad for my first professional ball game! What y’all think?”

That’s it “From the Swamp.”
