BEVERLY HILLS (MI) — You can tell that the Flyers’ basketball season is rapidly approaching, as the hoops content quotient here at “From the Swamp” is nearing 100%. Let’s get on with it!
— If you were hoping to see the much-anticipated debut of Kevin Dillard at PG for the Flyers on Saturday during the annual Red & Blue game, guess again — he’s out with a concussion:
Come to think of it, we actually all got to see KD play in last year’s R&B game, so what the heck do I know?
— A-10 fans have been anxiously awaiting WH’s conference forecast on the A-10 Message Board. Well, we can keep on waiting, because WH won’t be producing any prognostications this season, according to his recent post (edited for brevity):
“My wife and I have just signed a contract to build a major addition to our house and that’s likely to occupy most of my attention over the next year. I’m sure I’ll comment on the board from time to time, but less frequently.
Truth is I am definitely entering semi- perhaps permanent retirement. The blowup of the Big 12 and near destruction of the Big East has also soured me on college sports. I am just tired of all the uncertainty and money-grubbing. That’s why I hardly ever watch college football anymore.
I can’t remember the last time I paid this little attention to the start of the college season. I just started checking rosters last night and I probably won’t get around to commenting for a week. Haven’t even bought any magazines yet.
Oddly, I am suddenly excited about the upcoming season, now that I think about it, because so much seems new and uncertain. Of course, that may just be because I haven’t been paying the A-10 the usual attention. Still glad games are right around the corner, though …”
— In better news, 6’4” Canadian guard Naz Long has UD in his top 3 along with Iowa State and Rice. He plans to visit all 3 schools before deciding.
Here’s the interesting kicker in the recruitment of young Mr. Long — he could be eligible to play this January! CycloneFanatic.com with the details:
— Since WH is semi-retired, I guess we’ll just have to settle for Mark “The Hometown Coach” Adams’ college hoops predictions instead:

— Here is a list of every one of the 1,450+ college hoops games that will be carried on the ESPN Family of Networks this season. The Flyers will be shown for all 3 of their games during the Old Spice Classic in Orlando over Thanksgiving, plus the home game in the home-and-home series with our friends to the South:

Hopefully, Mark Adams will get to do another UD game this season.
— Zagsblog.com with the Captain Obvious non-news flash that prep schools have supplanted JUCOs as a source for prime college hoops talent:
— Let’s face it, folks we’ve all been guilty of referring to the Flyers as “we” at one time or another, right? Chris Jones at Grantland.com correctly identifies “we” as the most overused term in sports:

— Jason King just recently joined ESPN.com as a college hoops writer. Here is what he knows about the sport:

— The University of Dayton’s own Jon Gruden just signed a five year extension to stay with ESPN’s Monday Night Football:

— How does this happen? Former WONE sports talk show host Mark Schlemmer is homeless. Arch has the story from the DDN website:
— “Sweet Tweets of the Week” come to us courtesy of former Flyer Assistant Coach Reggie Rankin:
“Just left the University of Dayton practice. Really like the job first year head coach Archie Miller is doing. Players are “All In” and working hard. It was great to see Chris Johnson and Josh Benson again!! Hoping both of those young men I helped recruit have great seasons while helping the Flyers be successful!!”
Due to the 140 character limit on Twitter, Reggie actually had to break up the above entry into three separate Tweets.
That’s it “From the Swamp.”
