BEVERLY HILLS (MI) – Next up in our “FTS” series entitled “What do we know about…” is incoming freshman Marvel Allen, the 6’4” 195 pound combo guard from West Palm Beach, FL and Montverde Academy.

At one point in time, Allen was the #9 prospect in the country but a combination of school changes and injuries saw him fall to #100 in the Rivals rankings, #135 according to 247Sports and #147 per On3. Marvel started his HS career at Wellington HS, where as a frosh he predicted that he would play his college ball for Kentucky:

Allen transferred to Calvary Christian, where he won back-to-back state championships. After his sophomore year, he was in the midst of a great AAU season when he sprained his ankle:

Coming off of that success, Allen decided to take his talents to national prep power Montverde for his senior year, where unfortunately the injury bug bit him again, limiting his PT:

Marvel committed first to LSU:

When bad boy LSU HC Will Wade was fired, Allen then signed with Georgetown:

When HC Patrick Ewing was let go, Marvel reopened his recruitment and in early May after visiting UD, he gave AG his commitment. Here are a couple of pieces from Jablo in The DDN:

Jablo also shared this tidbit on Twitter as to how he pronounces his first name:

David Jablonski
@DavidPJablonski

One thing I learned after talking to new Dayton recruit Marvel Allen and his high school coach, Cilk McSweeney, is his first name is not pronounced like the movie franchise. It’s Mar-vell. His sister’s name is Marvelous. His dad’s name is Marvin.

Finally, with all of the new players (including four new walk ons) here is handy graphic to help you determine who is who:

That’s it “From the Swamp.”
