Next up is PG Rodney Chatman.
Rodney transferred to Dayton from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he started all 29 games at PG for The Mocs in 2017-2018. In a way, we can thank former UTC coach Matt McCall for both Rodney and his fellow Flyer PG Jalen Crutcher. Crutch had signed with The Mocs and was released from his LOI when McCall took the UMassUNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS

The Chattanooga Times Free Press ran this profile of Chatman when he committed to The Mocs:

• Led the team in scoring in seven games as a sophomore, with a career high 26 against ETSU
• Averaged 13.3 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game as a sophomore
• Shot 45.3 percent from the field, 33.9 percent from the three point line, and 78.2 percent on free throws
• Finished with a career high 14 assists in a road game at Jacksonville State in December 2017
• Ranked sixth in the Southern Conference in minutes per game at 32.3

The following is Rodney’s profile from Bustin’ Brackets:
Chatman sat out last season after transferring from Chattanooga. The 6-1 guard averaged 13.3 points his sophomore season and has two seasons of eligibility left with the Flyers. Chatman could potentailly push Crutcher for the starting point guard spot, but it is more likely that he’ll function as a solid backup. It’s not inconceivable both could share the floor, however, as Chatman projects as a capable 3-point shooter when playing off the ball (33.9%).
Chatman is described as a “late bloomer” by his dad Rodney, who played hoops at USC. Here is his Pops hitting a three vs. Georgia Tech in the second round of the NCAA Tournament back in 1992:

Lots of good info on Chatman and his family in this piece from David Jablonski at The DDN:
IYRC, Rodney committed during a photo shoot on his official visit to UD. Asked if he had anything to tell the Flyer Faithful he replied:
“I’m committing to be a Dayton Flyer.”
Both Rodney and Jalen Crutcher were sidelined for the “Secret Scrimmage” vs. UC on Saturday. It demonstrates just how deep this edition of the Flyers will be when UD was able to go nose-to-nose vs. the Bearcats with only Dwayne Cohill available at PG.
Unlike Jordy Tshimanga, Chase Johnson and Ibi Watson, Rodney Chatman is a known quantity, having played PG successfully for another major college program. The hope here is that he can approximate the production he had at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and provide meaningful minutes for this very deep Flyer squad.
That’s it “From the Swamp.”
