At the 2024 seasons’ end, Anthony GrantUniversity of Dayton Head Coach Anthony Grant is at the helm of his alma mater’s men’s basketball program after head coaching stops at VCU and Alabama. UD announced Anthony Grant as the 20th head coach in UD Basketball history on March 30, 2017. was faced with replacing five players on the University of Dayton basketball roster:
– DaRon Holmes set sail for the NBA
– Koby Brea took his talents to UK
– Kobe Elvis transferred to Oklahoma
– Petras Padegimas enrolled at Mercer
– Zimi Nwokeji moved on to Jacksonville
(It actually could have been six players, but senior Nate Santos wisely withdrew his name from the transfer portal a week after entering it.)
With a combination of transfer portal players and new signees, AG was able to accomplish the manpower mission in an impressive fashion. The first of the five to commit on April 15th was Zed Key, a 6’8” and 220 lb. graduate transfer from tOSU via Long Island Lutheran High School.

What Zed was looking for in a school:
“First is development. I want to be able to develop my game a little bit more on the perimeter. Family atmosphere is another biggie. I had that here at Ohio State. I don’t want to go somewhere else where it’s not a family atmosphere. That’s big.”
There is no doubt that Dayton 6th played a ‘key’ role in securing Zed’s commitment:

You have a typo. Zed Key weighs 220, not 255.
255 is what he weighed at tOSU in 2023 before he dropped 30 pounds, but thanks I’ll fix it!
