I'm not surprised by this one... Good Luck kid
At this moment, we have 4 schollies open (Brady's scholarship doesn't rollover and we are still waiting on Deuce)

He never seemed comfortable in the offense. Good luck to him.

So far no losses, as long as we upgrade with replacements.

Not surprising. He had to have considered this year a wasted year. He'll probably go lower but somewhere that he can get minutes.

No big loss, lacked strength and kind of a project. He has some ability and I wish him well. We should be able to replace him with someone better in the portal.

I wish him well. He was definitely a bit overmatched, especially when he came back from his illness (several pounds lighter) and was asked to backup Deuce at the 5. It reminded me of watching Jeff Tressler (all 190 pounds of him) try to guard Roy Tarpley when we played at Xichigan back in the early-mid 1980s.
And while I agree that we should be able to find an upgrade in the portal (for both Paddy and Elvis), the key word is “should”. As Petras’s replacement, do we get Nate Santos 2.0 or Kaleb Washington 2.0? In Kobe’s case, do we get Vee Sanford 2.0 or Larry Hisle Jr. 2.0? Knowing that minutes are available on a team that went to The Dance should be a selling point. The coaching staff just needs to make the right sales pitch to the right prospects.
Good luck, Petras, wherever you land.

I was really hoping the light would come in for him next year. I hope he finds a great fit. Best of luck, Petras.
The only positive I see from this is that I don’t have to worry about autocorrect changing Petras to Petra’s.

Is it possible that Petras has an idea of who might be committing soon? It has to be hard on some of the returning players as they are getting an idea of what’s going to be the rotation next year. He would surely know where he stands if guys are pulling the trigger soon. Is that possible? I guess my real question is if anyone thinks that we may hear news soon?

Just too slow. Unable to do anything on offense other than a wide open deep shot. 10 total fgs! 4 were inside the 3 point line. This is good news. Simply not able to complete in our league. He may do well at a much smaller program.

FWIW.. Jack, Bennett and Cheeks all committed between the last few days of March and the end of April so wouldn't be surprising at all to start seeing movement in the next week or two.
Also, with the new normal should it really be called a commitment when a player chooses a school regardless of freshman or transfer?

I agree that Petras never looked comfortable in the offense. Seemed like he was never sure where he was supposed to be on the floor. I did like his size and think with experience he could have developed into a nice player. I could see him as another Mikesell by the time hes a senior. But alas....the days of grooming a promising player seem to be gone. If you can't recruit someone (frosh or portal) who is good enough right now to get satisfactory playing time You're in danger of losing him. This is why it seems like the recruiting of HS talent is much more of a risk than portal talent. Should you take a maybe or a sure thing?
For years Ive thought one of our persistent shortcomings was that we had no consistent three-point threat. This past season we had the best set of outside shooters in my memory and still lost some games when all went cold. After last night's shutdown of the nations 2nd best 3-pt shooting team it seems like the key to success is to have several big, quick guards who can not only shoot the 3, but also slash to the basket successfully. we had trouble defending this type all year and it was a feature I thought we didn't have much of this past season. Brea - not a slasher. Elvis - not a slasher...too often got a step on his man then pulled up. Mali possible slasher but too short to finish against big leapers inside and has no mid-range game yet. Allen....too soon to tell.
Thoughts?

In the old days, it would have been fun watching him develop over his career. I think he has skills and could have been a good player for UD by the time he was done. Oh well.

Hate seeing players in good standing depart. A key to success in CBB is getting old and staying old.
I thought Petras had real potential. He seemed in over his head this year, but I thought he looked really long and had the potential to play the stretch 5 that's been so important to recent success. Given the way Grant develops bigs and the opportunities he was given this year, it's hard to understand why he'd take off.
But that's the nature of contemporary CBB. I'm really encouraged that both Marvel Allen and Jaiun Simon appear to be sticking around. No idea what their roles will be this coming season, but that shows some buy-in, which is increasingly rare.

IMO, it is hard to evaluate this, he was sick, and he didn't get a lot of pt. This transfer portal really increases the amount of turnover.
Good luck to him, feels like we barely knew him.

He was an overmatched freshman who AG was clearly barking at every time he looked at the rim. AG wanted him to save the shots for the upper classmen.
Contrary to what keeps getting repeated here, he was / is not slow. He was out of position almost continuously. He wasn't getting beat because of purely foot speed, he was getting beat because of poor defensive principles. He would have been a nice contributor over the next 3 years. Too bad.
